What To Watch
Speak No Evil Makes $1.3 Million in Previews
“Speak No Evil” is ready to make some noise at the box office this weekend.
The Universal and Blumhouse horror remake, released two years after the terrifying Danish original film, made $1.3 million in previews at the box office. It’s expected to make between $10 million and $13 million at the box office in its opening weekend, which would be a solid start considering its budget was just $15 million.
“Speak No Evil” won’t stand a chance against Warner Bros.’ “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” which opened with a scary good $111 million last weekend and will keep the box office crown for the second week. Ticket sales for the Tim Burton sequel are projected to decline about 60%, putting its box office total to around $45 million in its second week.
James Watkins (“Bastille Day”) directed “Speak No Evil,” a psychological horror about vacation friends gone wrong. American couple Louise and Ben, played by Davis and Scoot McNairy, meet the odd British pair Paddy and Ciara, creepily portrayed by McAvoy and Aisling Franciosi, while on a trip abroad, they’re invited to stay with them over a weekend. However, things quickly take a dark turn, and the dream holiday turns into a dark nightmare. The original Danish film premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival’s Midnight section and drew major praise for its dark story, characters and direction.
Also opening this weekend is Lionsgate’s “The Killer’s Game,” starring Dave Bautista, Sofia Boutella and Pom Klementieff, Terry Crews and more. Bautista stars as an assassin who mistakenly placed a hit on himself when he thought he had a terminal illness, only for the diagnosis to be wrong. The action film is expected to open with $5 million.
