Sales agency The Playmaker Munich has closed the first distribution deals on thriller “Sew Torn,” ahead of its appearance at Sitges Film Festival in the Noves Vision Section.

The film, which previously screened at SXSW and Locarno, has sold to distributors in France (Koba Films), U.K. (Vertigo Releasing), Spain (Madfer Films), Japan (King Records) and India (BookMyShow India).

UTA Independent Film Group, which holds the rights for North America, are in talks with distributors.

“Sew Torn” is the feature film debut of writer-director Freddy Macdonald, following his short film of the same title, which was acquired by Searchlight Pictures. Freddy Macdonald’s AFI thesis film, “Shedding Angels,” won a Student Academy Award and was shortlisted for a student BAFTA. He is represented by UTA.

“Sew Torn” is described as “a layered thriller with dark comedy elements exploring the intricate tapestry of human decision-making.”

The film centers on Barbara Duggen (played by Eve Connolly), who calls herself the Mobile Seamstress. She is struggling to keep her fabric shop alive. After a botched sewing appointment sets her on a quest to replace her client’s button, she stumbles upon a drug deal gone bad. Faced with downed motorcyclists, guns, and a briefcase, Barbara is completely torn. She is forced to pick between three choices: commit the perfect crime, call the police, or drive away.

“Sew Torn” is a U.S.-Swiss production by Fred Macdonald (U.S.), Barry Navidi (U.S.), Sebastian Klinger (Switzerland), Diamantis Zavitsanos and Socratis Zavitsanos (U.S.). The film is directed by Freddy Macdonald and written by him and Fred Macdonald.
