Kamala Harris earned praise from Hollywood following her first presidential debate against Donald Trump, which many in the industry viewed as a resounding triumph for Harris’ campaign. Mark Ruffalo, for instance, posted on X (formerly Twitter) that he was initially “anxious” for the debate but the results could not have been more positive.

“What is clear is that Kamala not only has a vision for the future and lifting America up but she is just so much even-tempered and so much smarter that Trump,” Ruffalo wrote. “She crushed him.”

“It was like watching Muhammad Ali: she baited him and then let him swing wildly until he sputtered out,” he added in a follow-up post on X.

“Parks and Recreation” favorite Nick Offerman was even more blunt in his assessment of the debate in favor of Harris: “That was a good old-fashioned ass-whupping”

“This man is weak, stupid and delusional!!” added “Abbott Elementary” Emmy winner Sheryl Lee-Ralph about Trump.

Jimmy Kimmel reacted to the debate with a meme that replaced Trump and Harris with characters from Disney and Pixar’s “Inside Out” franchise. Trump was Anger and Harris was Joy.

Of course the biggest Hollywood reaction to the debate was that of Taylor Swift, who formally endorsed Harris for president just a few minutes after the debate ended. The pop star praised Harris and wrote she “fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”

In his assessment of the debate, Variety’s film critic Owen Gleiberman wrote that “Harris the prosecutor showed up, loaded for bear. It’s not just that she made her arguments with lawyerly relentlessness. She spoke with a steady outrage, a force, an almost lyrical anger, waving her hands around like a conductor.”
