Less than a year-and-a-half after its release in June 2023, the very popular online role-playing game “Diablo IV” is getting a new expansion pack that introduces new characters, locations and narratives to the lore of Sanctuary.
With a starting price of $39.99, “Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred” is available for download for Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One, as well as PC — beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 8.
Since “Vessel of Hatred” is an add-on, you need to own a copy of “Diablo IV” to download. However, if you have access to the game via Xbox Game Pass, you still need to purchase the DLC (downloadable content), if you’d like to play.
Unlike the main campaign in “Diablo IV,” “Vessel of Hatred” is set in a jungle location called “Nahantu.”
“The whole thing is it expands the world. So when you look at ‘Diablo IV,’ it takes place on what we call Eastern Continent,” explains Rod Fergusson, video game producer and general manager at Activision Blizzard, to Variety. “And there’s a part down here called Nahantu, which is a jungle and it’s really interesting to go to a different place. ‘Diablo IV’ is known having a Gothic and Medieval feeling, but Nahantu has this very jungle vibe which is a pallet cleanser from my setting perspective. And so it’s really fun and fresh to go into it with a different setting with a new way of playing.”

As for the DLC itself, “Vessel of Hatred” introduces new enemies, including monstrous insects and corrupted humanoids, in a jungle setting, while it features a new endgame dungeon for online co-op play. There’s also a new character class called the “Spiritborn,” who can draw power from ancient jungle warriors in combat.
The standard edition, which goes for $39.99, includes the base expansion, while the deluxe edition, which goes for $59.99, includes the base expansion and additional armors, skins, animal companions and more. And priced at $89.99, the ultimate edition has all of these things, plus extra tokens, in-game currency and other fun goodies.
Beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 8, “Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred” is downloadable for Xbox and PC. In the meantime, watch the game’s launch trailer, below:
