Esther Acebo to Star in ‘In the End, Everything Will Be Fine’
Esther Acebo, best known for playing Stockholm in Netflix’s global smash hit “Money Heist,” has signed on to star in Nestor Ruiz Medina‘s upcoming feature “In the End, Everything Will Be Fine” (“Al Finald Toda va a Estar Bien”).
Described as a “critique on today’s society in the vein of Ruben Östlund,” the film will tell five interweaving stories that touch on the “essence of the stupidity of humanity.”
Acebo’s credits include “Money Heist,” Prime Video’s “Operación Marea Negra” and “Antes de Perder” on Playz. Her feature film resume includes roles in Ignacio Tatay’s “Jaula” and Joaquín Mazón’s “De Perdidos al Río.” She is currently filming “La Increíble Historia de Julia Pastrana” for Disney+ and the feature “Normas para una Página de Sucesos” by director José Ortuño.
Of her reaction to seeing the screenplay for “In the End, Everything Will Be Fine,” Acebo said: “A script so uncomfortable that I couldn’t sit still when I first read it; so different and fresh. Without a doubt, the film will stir emotions, make people uncomfortable, touch hearts, and move the audience. It will make people laugh as well as think. As an actress, I find it a wonderful challenge to tell this story, and I’m dying to do it.”
Joining Acebo in the film’s cast are actors María Lázaro, who starred in Medina’s directorial debut “21 Paraíso,” and Alex Sorian Brown (“Hora y Veinte,” “Evan Wood”). Filming will take place over several weeks in locations in Cádiz and Castilla la Mancha. Mono con Pistolas Films and Sorenfilms are both on board to produce.
Medina is a seasoned filmmaker whose shorts have featured at several prestigious international festivals, including Tribeca. His work has been nominated twice for Spanish Academy Goya Awards, in 2018 and 2022. His feature debut was 2022’s “21 Paraíso,” which screened at Tallen Black Nights in Estonia and made its domestic debut at the Seville European Film Festival. The film won a special mention from the jury and the Young Jury Award for Best Debut Film at the REC Festival in Tarragona.
“[‘In the End, Everything Will be Fine’] is deeply rooted in reality,” said the director. “As the saying goes, truth is stranger than fiction. My aim with this project is to offer a mirror to modern humanity, highlighting our quirks and dependencies. As the narrative unfolds, that reflection naturally evolves into satire.”
