‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Gets Disney+ Streaming Release Date
“Deadpool & Wolverine,” one of the year’s biggest movies, will finally be available to stream at home on Disney+ on Nov. 12.
The news was revealed in a sizzle reel posted by Marvel on Wednesday revealing its TV slate for next year, which includes live-action series “Daredevil: Born Again,” “Ironheart” and “Wonder Man,” and animated series “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man,” “Eyes of Wakanda” and “Marvel Zombies.”
The Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman-starring superhero feature is the second highest-grossing film of 2024, earning a whopping $1.3 billion dollars at the global box office. It recently surpassed “Barbie” ($636.2 million) to become the 12th-highest-grossing North American release in history. It also ranks as the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever.
Directed by Shawn Levy (“Free Guy,” “Night at the Museum”), the film follows Reynolds’ Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool, whose peaceful existence comes crashing down when the Time Variance Authority interferes with his life. He soon makes frenemies with Wolverine (Jackman) to save his world from a multiversal threat. It’s the first Marvel Cinematic Universe entry to be headlined by comic book characters that were previously licensed to 20th Century Fox, which was acquired by the Walt Disney Company in 2019.
The film is packed with cameos galore, with everyone from Chris Evans, who returns to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to play Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch, from his first superhero role in Fox’s “Fantastic Four.” Joining him are Jennifer Garner’s Elektra, Wesley Snipes’ Blade, Dafne Keen’s X-23 and Channing Tatum’s Gambit, who never actually appeared in one of Fox’s “X-Men” movies but had long been rumored for a standalone.
Other MCU characters also pop up, including Jon Favreau’s Happy Hogan, the Hulk and Wunmi Mosaku’s Hunter B-15 from “Loki.” Then there are all the Deadpool and Wolverine variants: Henry Cavill cameos as Cavillrine; Reynolds’ wife Blake Lively voices Ladypool; Matthew McConaughey briefly voices Cowboy Deadpool and Nathan Fillion is Headpool, a disembodied, floating head.
