Grammy Award-winning artist Billy Porter and two-time Tony honoree Alan Cumming have joined the production team for Sam Morrison’s one-man show “Sugar Daddy.”

They join a producing team that is led by Edgewood Entertainment’s Dale A. Mott and Charles D. Urstadt. Directed by Stephen Brackett, “Sugar Daddy” chronicles one summer spent in Provincetown, Mass., where Morrison “met the sexy silver zaddy of his dreams, igniting a romance for the ages. But in the midst of the pandemic, the love of his life tragically died from COVID. Devastated, Sam realized the only way to cope was through comedy. Done live on stage. In front of thousands of strangers,” reads the official logline.

“Joining the producing team for ‘Sugar Daddy’ is an exhilarating opportunity to champion a story that is both daring and deeply human,” Porter said. “I’m thrilled to support this groundbreaking play that challenges conventions and celebrates authenticity.”

“I’m thrilled to join Sam Morrison’s ‘Sugar Daddy’ as a producer,” Cumming added. “Sam is an incredible performer and writer, and this show is revelatory. He tackles personal grief not just with humor but with such bold tenderness and insightful vision. It’s fresh, it’s full of heart and it’s really dirty, and I can’t wait to help bring this incredible story into more people’s lives.”

The stage show first received critical acclaim at the 2022 Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland before starting its run at Off-Broadway’s SoHo Playhouse in New York where it was extended three times.

“Sugar Daddy” opens at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills on Sept. 29 and will remain there until Oct. 13 before coming to Broadway in 2025. Tickets can be purchased on the venue’s website.
