“The Human Rights Campaign is proud to be the exclusive beneficiary of ‘Lover of Men,’” said HRC’s vice president of membership Dane Grams. “It is an important conversation, at an important time in our nation — as we barrel toward a consequential election in which our freedoms — including our freedom to love who we love and be who we are and live openly with pride — are on the line.”

The documentary features Lincoln scholars and never-before seen photographs and letters. “’Lover Of Men’ widens its lens into the history of human sexual fluidity and focuses on the profound differences between sexual mores of the nineteenth century and those we hold today,’” the film’s official synopsis reads, in part. “The film fills in an important missing piece of American history and challenges the audience to consider why we hold such a limited view of human sexuality. ‘Lover Of Men’ is not only an exploration of gender roles and sexual identity but also serves as an examination of American intolerance.”

“Lover of Men” producer Robert Rosenheck said, “Equality is at the heart of the American dream, and it is equality that guided Lincoln’s vision. HRC’s fearless fight for equality is inspiring to us and we are honored to partner with them on the release of ‘Lover of Men.’”

The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer equality. HRC envisions a world where LGBTQ+ people are embraced as full members of society at home, at work and in every community.
