Almost ten years after its initial launch on the Nintendo Wii U, it’s been revealed that Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition will be released on the Nintendo Switch in 2025. Monolith Soft’s epic and expansive open-world JRPG will not just be a straight-up port; it’ll also include enhanced visuals and sport new story elements. Nintendo didn’t say much about the extent of the additional narrative.
Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition didn’t set the world on fire when it came out (the Wii U’s poor sales didn’t help), but it still received loads of positive recognition, with it sitting at a solid critic average of 84 on Opencritic. It’s also one of the last remaining Wii U exclusives that’s been trapped on the system, with the likes of Star Fox Zero and Nintendo Land.

Which Xenoblade Chronicles Game Is Your Favorite?
Xenoblade Chronicles is a popular JRPG game franchise that has three mainline games and some spin-offs that are amazing games. Each game features different protagonists, and they connect with other games to create the overall Xeno universe. I think that, while each game has pros and cons, my favorite game is probably Xenoblade Chronicles 2. The reason I love the game so much is that I think the characters are so well fleshed out, and the storyline is amazing.
Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition Release Date
Nintendo has confirmed in a tweet and press release that Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition will launch for the Nintendo Switch on March 20, 2025. This makes it the farthest out first-party Switch game that we know is confirmed for 2025, besides Metroid Prime 4, which is due in the same year but has no official date or window.
Right now, the only other first-party Nintendo game besides Metroid and Xenoblade slated for 2025 is Donkey Kong Country Returns HD. Many Nintendo players are used to seeing the company release ports once its consoles approach the end of their life cycles. While there have been reports that the company is set to unveil the next Switch console, we’ll have to wait and see if this port reveal means the Switch 2 is closer than we think.
