Summary

  • Witch Watch anime will debut in April 2025 with Netflix and Crunchyroll streaming episodes as they air in Japan.
  • US fans can watch the first 3 episodes in theaters on March 16, courtesy of GKIDS, with exclusive interviews included.
  • Witch Watch is a romantic comedy set in a magical world, potentially becoming a seasonal hit similar to Dandadan.

Witch Watch anime is coming out in April, but fans in the US will be able to watch the first episodes prior to the regular broadcast — and on the big screen!

While Witch Watch may not be as big as Jujutsu Kaisen or My Hero Academia, it is a solid Shonen Jump series and its anime adaptation looks promising! It could maybe repeat Dandadan, in the sense of becoming that huge seasonal hit that only a few people saw coming.

What Is Witch Watch About?

Witch Watch has been running in Shonen Jump since 2021. It is a romantic comedy, one of the reasons it’s fair to compare it to Dandadan.

The story is set in a magical world. Nico Wakatsuki is a teenage witch who is now living with her childhood friend, Morihito Otogi (who is an ogre, despite looking quite human). Otogi is supposed to become her familiar, and protect her because of their lineage. As Nico has always had a crush on him, she hopes this will help their relationship to develop in a romantic way!

Studio Bibury (Magical Destroyers) is handling the series’ animation. The main staff includes Deko Akao (Noragami Aragoto, Komi Can’t Communicate) as the head writer, and Hiroshi Ikehata (TONIKAWA, 365 Days to the Wedding) as the director.

If the rumors regarding Netflix being involved in Kagurabachi and Akane-banashi‘s anime adaptations, then the streaming is now securing most of the most-anticipated Shonen Jump shows to its catalog.

Witch Watch will run for two consecutive cours starting April 2025.
