elder scrolls 2025 game rant

While players have been waiting for The Elder Scrolls 6 since its announcement in 2018, 2025 is not likely to bring anything significant to the table as the game is still in early production. Bethesda’s focus was previously on Starfield and Starfield: Shattered Space, and Fallout 4 before that. With Starfield and Shattered Space released, Bethesda finally shifted its focus to The Elder Scrolls 6 in 2024.

Despite this shift in focus, The Elder Scrolls 6 is still likely many years away from a release, with the most optimistic release year being 2026. The Elder Scrolls 6 is still very early in development, and fans will be lucky to get any significant news about the story, setting, or characters in 2025. The prospect of an end-of-year teaser trailer may be tenuous, but it’s worth hoping for. In the meantime, rumors suggest that a remake of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion is in development.

The Elder Scrolls 6 is Still in Early Development

2025 will most likely bring at least a minor development update for The Elder Scrolls 6, with news from Bethesda on The Elder Scrolls 6‘s progress. Details will likely be sparse, especially as The Elder Scrolls 6 only left pre-production in 2024 after Shattered Space‘s release. Like Starfield, it will be developed in Bethesda’s Creation 2 engine, which will hopefully mean Bethesda has the opportunity to fix any mistakes and streamline the process it developed while creating Starfield.

In the best-case scenario, if The Elder Scrolls 6 has a 2026 release date, Bethesda may release a teaser trailer towards the end of 2025. Skyrim‘s teaser trailer didn’t include any footage from the game and only featured Alduin’s Wall, but it confirmed the setting and protagonist while also tying it to the previous games in the series. Skyrim‘s teaser trailer was a masterclass in trailer production, and if Bethesda could release a teaser like it for The Elder Scrolls 6 towards the end of 2025, many fans would be thrilled.

The Oblivion Remake May Be Announced Early 2025

In the meantime, 2025 may be exciting for The Elder Scrolls fans for a different reason thanks to the rumors of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion remake. The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion was groundbreaking when it was released, and is still one of the most beloved games in The Elder Scrolls franchise thanks to its storylines, gameplay, and characters. Its setting of Cyrodiil is at the heart of Tamriel, and revisiting it in 2025 before the release of The Elder Scrolls 6 would be an incredible throwback to one of the best games in the franchise.

Oblivion is beloved by many players but its character design, NPC behavior, voice acting, and combat haven’t aged gracefully. Oblivion is the perfect candidate for a remake thanks to its story and writing which stand the test of time, and it’s remembered fondly even today despite–or in some cases, because–of its janky scripting.
