Sega has announced a brand-new physical edition of Virtua Fighter 2 coming to Xbox consoles via Limited Run Games. This physical edition of Virtua Fighter 2 was announced in celebration of the overall franchise’s 30th anniversary, which Sega is putting a lot of love behind.
First released in 1994 for arcades, Virtua Fighter 2 is one of Sega’s most influential games, critically acclaimed for its stellar gameplay and ground-breaking graphics. The arcade version was so successful that it got ported to the Sega Saturn a year later, which was later released digitally on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2012. A new version of the Xbox version will be released physically courtesy of Limited Run Games.

The Game Awards 2024 reveals the newest game from Yu Suzuki, creator of Sega’s historic Shenmue and Virtual Fighter franchises.
Limited Run’s physical version of Virtua Fighter 2 is available to pre-order from December 12 to January 12, complete with an exclusive box that takes inspiration from the Sega Saturn’s jewel case. The Standard Edition prices out at $34.99, with the game being able to run on both Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. Limited Run is also offering a Classic Edition of Virtua Fighter 2 priced at $64.99, which includes not only a classic box, but also a retro-styled longbox. A commemorative coin and set of art cards based on Virtua Fighter 2‘s roster will also be included in the Classic Edition. The Standard Edition is estimated to ship out around May 2025, while the Classic Edition will be released around June 2025.

Limited Run is also offering physical editions for Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown on PS4, with pre-orders also available between December 12 to January 12, complete with a reversible cover for the Standard Edition. A Classic Edition is also available for pre-order, adding an alternate storage box along with the soundtrack. The Collector’s Edition offered by Limited Run includes an art book, a commemorative coin, a certificate of authenticity, and a statue based on Akira Yuki. The Standard Edition is estimated to ship out May 2025; the Classic Edition is shipping around June 2025; and the Collector’s Edition will be released in October 2025.
During the Game Awards 2024, Sega gave a brief look at a new Virtua Fighter game by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, showing off its new graphics and gameplay. A Virtua Fighter 30th Anniversary stream following The Game Awards also gave some insight into the franchise’s future, including the new Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. version coming to PC and balance changes in Ultimate Showdown‘s 2.0 Update.
