Twitch Has Banned Asmongold

Asmongold’s alt account zackrawrr has recently been banned from Twitch after the famous streamer made racist comments against Palestinians. Despite zackrawrr’s ban, Asmongold’s main account remains online on Twitch.

Zack “Asmongold” Hoyt currently has over 3.5 million followers on Twitch, being one of the most popular streamers on the platform. Asmongold began his career in 2009 and quickly became famous by posting World of Warcraft videos on YouTube. He started to stream on Twitch in 2011 and was already among the most-viewed Twitch streamers by 2019. At the moment, Asmongold has two channels on Twitch: his main channel, and zackrawrr.

Now, Asmongold’s alt account has been banned from Twitch. While Twitch has not unveiled an official explanation for the ban, it happened soon after Asmongold talked about how he had no sympathy for Palestinians during a stream on October 14. At the time, Asmongold claimed Palestinians had “genocide that’s baked into their laws,” called them “terrible people” and accused them of coming from an “inferior culture.” Twitch’s Terms of Service prohibit users from engaging in speech that reinforces negative stereotypes or dehumanizes people, so it’s likely that these remarks are why Asmongold was banned from the platform.

Twitch Bans Asmongold’s Alt Account Zackrawrr

The streamer’s anti-Palestinian comments soon turned into a big online backlash. On October 15, Asmongold apologized, promising to do better while going back on his previous remarks, stating that “no one deserves to have their life destroyed even if they do things or have views I find regressive.” It’s not currently known how long Asmongold’s ban will last, and his main account is still online at the time of this report. Also, this was not the first time that Twitch banned Asmongold. The content creator was also banned for 24 hours back in 2022 due to using racist language, something that the streamer denied at the time.

Asmongold has already complained about how Twitch’s banning system worked in the past. Back in 2023, the streamer claimed that Twitch’s system was very inconsistent, and argued that only criminals should have their channels banned from the platform, as sometimes bans ended up being disproportionate to the offense committed.

Curiously, Asmongold is not the only prominent streamer to be banned from Twitch this week. Recently, Twitch banned and unbanned PewDiePie. While PewDiePie does not stream on Twitch anymore due to an exclusivity contract with YouTube, his account airs old content from the creator, and received multiple short, unexplained bans on October 14, leaving viewers puzzled about the reasons for these quick bans.
