Toby Fox has become somewhat well known for staying quiet about releases until they’re ready for a shadow drop or relevant information is ready, so many eagerly await any and all news surrounding his current project, Deltarune.
It has been six years since the initial release of Deltarune, which has the game’s devoted fanbase wondering when the next updates will come. Although the first two chapters of this game were released for free, Toby Fox has confirmed that Deltarune‘s next chapters will be paid releases. Fans have expressed their enthusiasm regardless of the price tag these updates come with.

The episode release strategy for the upcoming RPG Deltarune is beneficial for the game in some ways, but may be detrimental in others.
Toby Fox published the 2024 Undertale/Deltarune Holiday Newsletter, which notes that Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4 are “basically completed.” These chapters of the game have translation and bug-testing phases that must be finished ahead of release. However, the content present in those portions of the game is done. Fox notes that a team of professionals tested Deltarune Chapter 3 on PC, and they enjoyed finding various subtle details and text differences, which may be exciting to fans used to searching for Deltarune‘s various secrets.
Deltarune Gets an Encouraging Update
Although Toby Fox notes that the team of testers had a small criticism about segments of the game that limit saving, he implies that much of that reaction was by design, though it could be subject to change. It could be interesting for players to see where Deltarune could play with the save mechanic going forward, considering how impactful it’s been to the lore of Undertale. In a similar vein, Fox shares that the team of testers found details that seemed like errors, such as the misspelled word “pebbaroni,” though these were also fully intentional. Overall, Chapter 3 is mostly ready for release outside of some fine-tuning for consoles.
Fox shares that Deltarune Chapter 4’s first Japanese translation pass has been finished, and when translation nears full completion, the game will test on PC, then Chapter 3 and 4 will test on consoles. Chapter 5 has made steady progress as well, and Fox says that while the main team has focused on cleaning up Chapters 1, 2, and 3, recent hires have been hard at work on Chapter 5. He describes the process as “quite solid,” expressing overall confidence about the rate of their progress. Furthermore, Toby Fox reaffirms that Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4 will come out in 2025. There’s more under wraps that’s been teased, but for now, Fox is looking forward to 2025.
