Players can take on some truly confusing quests in the Codex book of Throne and Liberty. While a majority of these side quests will spell out the places that players need to go, the spots they need to examine, and the people they have to fight to complete a quest, some will only give a vague description or hint about what to do and leave it there. Understanding how to see these quests to their end is a tricky thing. One of these quests, called Fonos Basin Treasure, comes along pretty late in the game.

While this area is easily accessed soon after starting the game, the story won’t take players there until the last couple of chapters in the main quest. This means the area is crawling with powerful enemies that hit hard and can overpower any under-leveled characters wandering into their territory. The game even recommends that players should be at the current max leve before entering the area, even though the quest itself can be unlocked at Level 45. So anyone who wants to go treasure hunting needs to be sure they have leveled up accordingly. Once they have done so, they can follow this guide to finish the mission.

How To Complete Fonos Basin Treasure

The quest comes with four objectives that players will need to complete in order to beat it:

  • Talk to the Treasure Hunter at Fonos Basin
  • Defeat the Orc Shaman and find the Treasure Key
  • Open the Mysterious Chest in the northeast of the Fonos Basin and collect the Collection Codex: Fonos Basin’s Mysterious Copy of a Map
  • Refer to the Collection Codex: Mysterious Treasure Map to acquire treasure

Talk To the Treasure Hunter

To kick things off, speak with the Treasure Hunter, who is next to the Fonos Basin Waystone. He can be found standing directly next to the Waystone, so players only need to warp there (once activated, of course), and he can be easily found. When you speak with the Treasure Hunter, he will ask you to search for a treasure in the area by taking on the orcs that inhabit the land.

Defeat The Orc Shaman

Although the objective seems to refer to a specific enemy, there are a bunch of Orc Shamans that players can fight for this objective. They will surely have to fight several of them to find the Treasure Key.

Eventually, one of the Orc Shamans will drop the key after a player has defeated them. It will be on the ground for the player to pick up and won’t be automatically added to their inventory.

Open The Mysterious Chest

With the key in their pockets, the player will be pointed to the chest that it opens nearby. It can be found among the orc camp, in a small hut that players will have to climb up to. Be careful of the orc enemies that are wandering around, as they can be a little tough to take on in numbers.

Once you have found the chest, interact with it to open it. Much like with the Treasure Key, the chest will simply drop the map onto the ground. Pick the map up to progress the quest further.

Find The Treasure

The map itself is just a picture, and a confusing one at that. It points to where players can find the treasure. However, it is not only difficult to exactly make out the spot that the map is showing, but the treasure also can only be found at a specific time during the day.

The spot is near the Boonstone that players can see on their map, just southwest of the icon. This is an arena of sorts, and there is a staircase leading up to the Boonstone at the bottom of which is where the treasure is. When the day turns to night, the treasure can be obtained. This is a very short window of time, so try to be there before dusk begins or else you run the risk of missing it completely.
