The Next 5 Years Sound Super Busy for Assassin's Creed Fans
Key Takeaways
Table of Contents
- Ubisoft is reportedly planning to release around 10 new Assassin’s Creed games in the next five years.
- The company’s Assassin’s Creed lineup is said to comprise a diverse assortment of games of varying lengths and genres.
- The majority of the upcoming Assassin’s Creed titles hence aren’t expected to be mainline entries in the long-running series.
Approximately ten Assassin’s Creed games are planned to be released over the next five years, a well-known industry insider has said. The claim suggests that Ubisoft intends to significantly accelerate its Assassin’s Creed output before the end of the decade.
The 2010s have so far been by far the busiest decade for Ubisoft’s flagship franchise, which received over two dozen games during this period, including nine mainline installments and a plethora of Assassin’s Creed spin-offs. But as game development cycles continued to get longer, Ubisoft’s output has decreased, with the company so far putting out only two mainline entries in the franchise and a couple of mobile and VR spin-offs since the start of the 2020s.

Around 10 Assassin’s Creed Games Are Reportedly Planned for Release by 2029
But this pattern won’t continue for much longer, according to a new report by Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, which states that Ubisoft is currently planning to release approximately ten Assassin’s Creed games over the next five years, citing sources familiar with the matter. This purported roadmap is said to be fairly diverse, as it supposedly consists of games of “various lengths” and genres.
And while a decent chunk of the five-year lineup could hence consist of smaller-scale titles, even such spin-offs might have sizable budgets, as is believed to be the case with Assassin’s Creed: Codename Jade, an ambitious open-world mobile game set in ancient China, which was originally announced in 2022. According to recent reports, Assassin’s Creed Jade was initially targeting a 2024 release but was pushed back to 2025. More similar postponements of upcoming franchise entries are not out of the question, with Henderson reporting that the recent Assassin’s Creed Shadows delay could start a chain reaction as Ubisoft moves to adjust its series release schedule.
Upcoming Assassin’s Creed Games
- Assassin’s Creed Shadows
- Assassin’s Creed: Codename Jade
- Assassin’s Creed: Codename Hexe
- Assassin’s Creed: Codename Invictus
- Assassin’s Creed Netflix game
- Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag remake (rumored)
- Assassin’s Creed Nebula (rumored)
- Assassin’s Creed Echoes (rumored)
The same report also claims that the rumored Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag remake was targeting a November 2025 release up until recently, but has now also been delayed. The game, which is expected to be powered by an updated version of Ubisoft’s proprietary Anvil Engine, now seems unlikely to hit the market before 2026. Assassin’s Creed: Codename Hexe and Codename Invictus, which were announced alongside Jade and Shadows (then known as AC: Codename Red), still don’t have official release windows. Ditto for the unnamed Netflix-exclusive Assassin’s Creed game that was confirmed to be in the works in September 2022.
Doubling down on its flagship franchise could be one way for Ubisoft to rise above its current difficulties, which largely stem from a sequence of a few uneventful years marred by big-budget releases that underperformed sales expectations. But by averaging two Assassin’s Creed games per year until 2029, the company also runs the risk of saturating the market and causing series fatigue.
