The wide and wonderful world of One Piece is packed full of loud and extroverted characters, a prime example of which would be the series’ protagonist, Monkey D. Luffy. However, as a testament to Eiichiro Oda’s character writing, every individual in the world of One Piece possesses their own unique quirks and characteristics, with some being a lot more introverted than others.

Oda has modeled some of his characters off of figures within popular culture. Below are a few examples.

Being an introvert doesn’t necessarily mean these characters will outright refuse to spend time with others, but instead, can present introverted characteristics such as preferring to train alone or simply enjoying their own company in social situations. This can add relatability and a mysterious intrigue to these individuals that makes readers and viewers want to learn more about them.

7 Nico Robin

Robin Can Often Be Found Enjoying Her Own Company While Aboard The Sunny

Compared to the rest of the Straw Hats crew, Robin is by far the most quiet and reserved of the bunch. During scenes that showcase the gang hanging out, Luffy, Usopp, and Chopper can always be seen getting up to mischief while Nami barks orders at them, but as for Robin, she’d prefer to sip on a cocktail and read a cozy book on the ship deck.

Robin is the type of person who can observe a situation without needing to say a word, and though Luffy has encouraged her to come out of her shell a bit more, she could still be considered one of the only introverts aboard the ship. Part of this could be a lingering effect from her tragic childhood where she was forced to sail away from Ohara Island all alone, experiencing true loneliness at such a young age.

6 Killer

Killer Prefers To Keep His Identity Hidden While Tearing His Enemies To Shreds

  • First Appearance: Episode 392

Killer, the right-hand man of Captain Eustass Kidd, isn’t someone who enjoys making himself known to the world. In fact, Killer hides his face for the majority of the series, and barely ever speaks a line of dialogue, presenting him as a closed-off and introverted crew member who will only partake in combat when his captain tells him to do so.

During the events of Wano, Killer was forced to abandon his mask after consuming a SMILE fruit, causing him to experience a brief mental breakdown until Kid was able to get him back up to speed. Whether this will change Killer’s personality, only time will tell, but many will always see him as that quiet assassin lurking in the background.

5 Sugar

Sugar Surrounds Herself With Toys That She Creates Through Her Devil Fruit

  • First Appearance: Episode 608

Sugar’s Devil Fruit power allows her to turn ordinary citizens into toys, which causes them to be completely forgotten about by the people who once knew them. As a loyal member of Doflamingo’s family, Sugar puts her fruit to good use by transforming anyone on the island of Dressrosa who steps out of line. As a result, she occupies a small area of Dressrosa where she can often be seen hanging around with toys rather than real people.

Compared to her other family members, Sugar seems to be much more docile and distant. At first, this may seem to make sense given that she’s a little girl, but in actuality, Sugar is 22 years old, it’s just that her Devil Fruit slows down the aging process to make her seem far younger than she actually is.

4 Shirahoshi

Shirahohshi’s Emotional Instability Causes Her To Become Isolated From Her Family And Friends

Ever since she was a child, Shirahoshi has always been known for being a character who struggles to control her emotions. As a result, she often decides to lock herself away from others, even after becoming a princess, so that she doesn’t let her emotions spill out at every small inconvenience to irritate those around her.

Even upon meeting Luffy for the first time, Shirahoshi gets easily startled and even begins crying after he claims that he doesn’t like her as a joke. With that being said, mustering up the courage to attend the Reverie was a huge step forward for Shirahoshi in being able to take on the responsibilities of being a princess and interacting with the wider world.

3 Zoro

Zoro Can Usually Be Found Training On His Own, Sleeping, Or Wandering Off On An Island

  • First Appearance: Episode 1

Similarly to Robin, Zoro isn’t a straw hat who spends a lot of time socializing with the rest of the crew, unless a few bottles of sake are involved, of course. Instead, he can usually be found honing his sword skills on his own, or simply catching up on some sleep. Though he’s always ready to help out his crew whenever needed, Zoro also isn’t shy about walking around islands on his own and even partaking in a few fights along the way.

He’s also a character who doesn’t speak unless he feels he really needs to, such as when he feels the need to remind Luffy about his role as a captain. Zoro may not be the talkative type, but underneath the cold exterior is a deadly combatant who can easily slice any of the Straw Hats’ enemies in two with a single strike.

2 Trafalgar D. Water Law

Law Acts More Like A Nomad Than A Pirate Crew Captain

  • First Appearance: Episode 392

In all honesty, it can be easy to forget that Law is the captain of his own pirate crew, considering that the guy acts like more of a nomad for much of the series. When he’s not sneaking aboard the Straw Hat ship, Law is usually wandering around on his own, or with Bepo by his side, to understand the situation first-hand.

The tragic killing of Corazon, Law’s closest friend, at such a young age may have pushed Law further into isolation, and while he’s not above helping out those most deserving, he’s far less rash and hotheaded about it than Luffy. He’s also another character who tends to avoid partaking in too many social activities while aboard the Sunny.

1 Charlotte Katakuri

Katakuri’s Childhood Has Made Him Far More Distant Than His Siblings

  • First Appearance: Episode 852

Unlike the majority of Big Mom’s family, who are known for being loud and eccentric, Katakuri is instead much more quiet and reserved, preferring to let his fists do the talking for him. When he first shows up in the Whole Cake arc, Capone explains that Katakuri, despite seeming so mysterious and distant from his siblings, is secretly a ‘monster’ with some of the best Observation Haki seen up to that point.

Part of Katakuri’s introverted nature comes from his childhood where other kids would constantly mock him for his large mouth, and his passionate love for donuts. This is why he not only covers his mouth with a scarf but also avoids people altogether, acting as more of a cold and calculated mercenary who always aims to take down Big Mom’s latest enemies as quickly as possible without giving too much away about his identity or backstory in the process.
