Whether it was true or an extremely elaborate hoax is left open to the viewers’ interpretation, but all the information is there to make an informed judgment. Linda Napolitano’s true story features in The Manhattan Alien Abduction, and she personally recounts her far-fetched tale of alien abduction to the creative team behind the documentary series. Manhattan, New York 1989: Linda was fast asleep next to her husband, with her two children also present in the house. Linda claims she was abducted by aliens before being returned to her bed. She claims that while she was on their spaceship, the species from another galaxy carried out tests on her. Instead of thinking the whole thing was a bad dream, she ran to the media to tell her alleged story. To add to the peculiar nature of the case, 23 witnesses came forward claiming they saw the incident unfold right before their eyes. A woman being carried up onto a spaceship apparently lit up the Brooklyn skyline.
The true-crime show reveals that none of these witnesses have ever been officially revealed, and this raises serious concerns about Linda’s claims. Not to mention, alien abductions are part of the science fiction realm, and there has never been any proof that they exist. This case doesn’t do anything to change that belief, but it is clear that Linda Napolitano has had some struggles in her life, and she deserves to be treated with respect and dignity. Mental health problems shouldn’t be preyed on by so-called ‘believers’ who have added credence to her claims, and subsequently increased her own issues. It’s very clear that the event was something Linda truly believes happened to her, and that is very sad. One of the most disturbing aspects of the documentary is when old footage is revealed of Linda’s son recounting his own ‘experiences’ with the aliens. He claims he also experienced the whole thing, but was his mother heavily influencing him? Her son also appears in present-day interviews, but he appears as a dark silhouette as he doesn’t want to reveal his identity. Like Linda, he has stuck to every word of his original story. It’s either a very significant childhood brainwashing, or aliens actually do exist. The audience is left to make their minds up about which is the more likely scenario.

Linda Enlisted The Help Of A Ufologist But His Ex-Wife Claimed The Whole Thing Was A Hoax
Budd Hopkins, who was a famed Ufologist, features in old footage in the documentary, as he passed away in 2011. It is revealed that he assisted Linda in the aftermath of the ‘abduction’, but his ex-wife, Carol, who features in interviews, was in a tough spot despite her own opinions on the case. She didn’t want to compromise her marriage, but she had her doubts:
I had access to all of Budd’s original source material, so I started building a library of hypnosis sessions that Budd was doing with people.
The Netflix documentary is actually very balanced in its portrayal of the incident, despite the ridiculous nature of the claims. Both Linda and Carol are given a fair amount of screen time to put across their own opinions. On the balance of probability, Carol’s angle is much more believable than Linda’s.
Budd cherry-picked compelling details but ignored anything that presented difficult questions.
