The Boys Season 5 Scripts Still Aren't Done (Even With Production Underway)
Summary
- The Boys Season 5 is already in production, but the script is only half-written so far.
- The show’s creator, Eric Kripke, is comfortable with altering scripts during production as needed.
- The Boys Season 5 will not have a full crossover with Gen V, but will feature a big reunion with Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki.
The Boys is set to return to Amazon Prime Video for another run next year. The production for The Boys Season 5 is already ongoing and so is the script’s development, because the screenplay is not yet done.
The Boys was a massive hit when it debuted on Amazon Prime. The superheroes series by Eric Kripke follows a group of vigilantes who go after the corrupt superheroes called “Supes.” The story appealed to the masses for its storytelling and the stellar performances from the cast. The series broke records in 2024 after it accumulated 1.3 billion minutes viewed in a week when the Season 4 finale was released. The camera is already rolling for Season 5, but Kripke confirms that the script is not yet finished. And the series creator is not bothered at all.

There will be a big reunion in The Boys Season 5 involving Jensen Ackles and a former co-star from another series.
Kripke sat down for an interview with Forbes, where he talked about the show. He confirms they are still working on the script, but this isn’t new to them because they change the screenplay occasionally, even during the production. “Yeah, I mean, they’re not all written, by the way. They’re about half-written. I mean, look – things adjust all the time,” the series creator said about the unfinished script. “That happened in season one when like the ‘Me Too’ movement broke in the middle of the season and we had to go back and rethink a lot of things. So, we’re sort of used to this organic movement of the scripts always transforming a little bit, based on what’s happening in the world.”
Since they are used to working on the script while the camera rolls, Kripke adds that the show’s current status “doesn’t really scare us.” For them, what’s happening is not out of the ordinary because they alter the script anytime they feel the need to do so. “You’re always rewriting these things right up until the day before they shoot, and sometimes, the day they shoot. So, we’re used to changing things as the world changes – but yes, we definitely adjust scripts as new events come to light,” he explained. Although the script is unfinished and can change from time to time, Kripke clarifies that when it comes to the “big picture of the story, like it stays the same.”
There are many things to look forward to in the final season. However, Kripke said that fans could not expect a full crossover with Gen V. Although Kripke was involved in both series, for him, the two projects have “their own story.” While he is open to featuring some Easter eggs in both shows, a full team-up is a no-no. The Boys Season 5 will also bring back Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles). The upcoming season will open doors for a big reunion for Ackles and Jared Padalecki, who is confirmed to appear on the show. At present, there are no concrete details about Padalecki’s character in the series. Ackles, Padalecki and Kripke previously worked on the legendary TV series Supernatural.
The Boys Season 5 is expected to premiere in 2026.
