Even though he’s not the main villain of Final Fantasy 8, Seifer is one of the franchise’s most intriguing antagonists, and he even serves as a temporary party member during the early hours of the game. He joins Squall on a SeeD mission in Dollet, but doesn’t bring distinct gameplay mechanics since his skills are similar to those of the protagonist.
However, it’s clear that his impatient personality and disregard for superiors shape many of Seifer’s conflicts throughout the story. This allows players to see him change from Squall’s rival – a central theme of the plot – into a manipulable antagonist under Edea’s influence, making him one of the best temporary party members in the series, despite spending so little time in the party.

During the fight against Exdeath in the Great Forest of Moore, Galuf bravely withstands the enemy’s spells and devastating attacks, fighting to protect both his granddaughter, Krile, and his allies. In one of the game’s most striking moments, even after his HP hits zero, he remains standing, driven by unyielding resolve. Though he dies, his legacy lives on as he transfers his powers to his granddaughter.

However, despite his interesting personality and well-developed arc, including a conversation with Terra about emotions, General Leo eventually dies at the hands of Kefka, who emerges as the game’s main villain. In that version of Final Fantasy 12, he has an infinite stock of potions, allowing the group to survive indefinitely, which was unfortunately changed in later releases, like Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age.

However, everything changes at the end of that arc, when he witnesses his sister, Tietra, dying in the chaos of the battle at Fort Ziekden.
That loss pushes Delita Heyral to change entirely. At first, Ramza believes he died in the explosion, but later it’s revealed he survived and became a calculating figure, influencing Ivalice from the shadows to gain power and overthrow the nobility, making him one of the franchise’s most complex characters and one of the best temporary party members in JRPGs.
