The Batman Part 2 Filming Schedule Update May Be Disappointing
Key Takeaways
- The Batman Part 2 filming may be behind schedule due to incomplete script.
- Robert Pattinson’s busy schedule raises concerns over the production start date.
- The Batman Part 2 is separate from James Gunn’s DCU Batman, Reeves seems to be taking time to finish the script.
Filming for The Batman Part 2 is expected to begin next year, but a recent report suggests the planned start may be a little behind schedule.
The Batman Part 2 was officially announced shortly after the first installment debuted to box office success and critical acclaim. Initially scheduled to release in October 2025, The Batman Part 2 was pushed back to October 2026, reportedly due to the 2023 actors and writers’ strikes. In September 2024, a report indicated The Batman Part 2‘s script was complete and production was slated to begin in early 2025. However, DC Studios boss James Gunn recently claimed The Batman Part 2‘s script was not finished, and a new report on lead star Robert Pattinson’s new role in another project adds credence to Gunn’s update.

James Gunn Debunks More The Batman Spinoff Rumors (But He Likes One Strange Idea)
The Batman TV series spinoff rumors continue to circulate, and James Gunn had to shut one down again, though he seems open to a different idea.
The Hollywood Reporter‘s article on Pattinon’s casting in Christopher Nolan’s next movie notes that the actor is one of the four leads alongside co-stars Matt Damon, Tom Holland, and Anne Hathaway. With production on Nolan’s next movie planned for the first half of 2024, Pattinson will have a busy schedule between this mystery role and playing the Caped Crusader in The Batman Part 2. THR notes that there was “hope” that The Batman Part 2 could be filmed “sometime next year.” However, while there’s still hope, “nothing is close to being planned.”
In a recent interview with Inverse, Commissioner Gordon actor Jeffrey Wright revealed that he hasn’t read anything from The Batman Part 2‘s script, suggesting there’s still work to be done. That doesn’t mean fans should be concerned about another delay, but it would explain why The Batman Part 2 filming plans aren’t close to being solidified. October 2026 is well over a year away, so a mid-2025 production start still gives The Batman Part 2 reasonable time to meet its release date.
It’s understandable for fans to be concerned about The Batman Part 2‘s status. At one point, there was even a conspiracy theory circulating claiming The Batman Part 2 was canceled by Gunn, who debunked the unfounded assertion. Plans for The Batman Part 2 are moving forward, though it will exist separately from Gunn’s developing DCU franchise, which will cast a new actor for its version of Batman. Reeves has a proven track record of writing and directing quality films, so perhaps fans should be glad he’s taking as much time as he needs to complete The Batman Part 2 script so it will be worth the long wait.
The Batman Part 2 is scheduled to be released in theaters on October 2, 2026.
