The 24 Movie – How Should Jack Bauer Be Released?
Key Takeaways
Table of Contents
- Jack Bauer may embark on a solo mission to escape Russian captivity in the 24 Movie.
- One of Jack’s allies, like Tony Almeida or Chloe O’Brian, may break him out.
- Eric Carter could join forces with Jack Bauer in the film, leading a CTU team on a rescue mission.
The 24 Movie is officially happening, but that is all fans know at this stage. 20th Century Studios and Disney are teaming up to finally bring the hit television show to the big screen, and fans are hoping Kiefer Sutherland will be on board to reprise the iconic role of Jack Bauer for the first time in over a decade. If Bauer does return, the creative team will have to decide how he’ll be released from Russian captivity, so he can save the world from another terrorist threat.
24: Live Another Day ended with Jack Bauer surrendering to the Russians in order to save his longtime friend, Chloe O’Brian, and that is the last fans saw of him. It has long been speculated that a movie version would happen one day, and fans finally got their wish when it was announced back in July 2024 that it was in the early stages of production.

Fans are excited that a 24 movie version is officially in the works, but this doesn’t necessarily mean it will definitely happen.
Jack Bauer Could Embark On A Solo Mission To Escape From Russian Captivity
Kiefer Sutherland first played Jack Bauer over 20 years ago, and he’s been responsible for some of the best action sequences ever seen on television. If Kiefer signs up for the 24 Movie, he’ll be transferring those action skills onto the big screen. Jack Bauer’s big screen adventure will probably commence with an action sequence, and this could involve the former CTU agent escaping from the Russians. It’s unclear exactly where Jack was heading at the end of the last series in 2014, but it was nowhere good, that’s for sure.
Jack will have to be released from wherever he’s being held in order to deal with a potential global threat. An escape would be the most logical way for Jack to return to society, especially with his particular set of skills. Bauer is no stranger to captivity, after being held in a chinese prison for an extended period of time between the events of Day Five and Six. However, ten years have passed, and there’s a chance this imprisonment will have had a huge impact on him. Having said that, this is Jack Bauer, and he knows how to fight.
One Of Jack Bauer’s Allies Could Break Him Out
If a solo mission to break away from the Russians is asking too much of a traumatized Jack Bauer after years of torture and captivity, another option would be to have one of his allies break him out. Bauer has certainly been involved in a number of rescue missions, so maybe it is time someone came to help him, especially if the world needs saving. So who could possibly take part in a risky operation to bring Jack Bauer to safety?
Tony Almeida
Jack Bauer and Tony Almeida used to have a close relationship, until the latter character turned evil in Day 7, and became an iconic villain. Tony was hauled off to prison, but he escaped in the short film, 24: Solitary and re-emerged in the spin-off 24: Legacy, as a mercenary working for CTU boss, Rebecca Ingram. He semi-atoned for his previous crimes, and he’s still out there in the universe, so it’s likely he could return in the 24 Movie. What better way to announce his return, by breaking Jack out of captivity? It would go a long way towards redeeming himself in Jack’s eyes, and the pair could team up to save the world.
Chloe O’Brian
Jack gave himself up to save Chloe in 24: Live Another Day, so it’s only fair that she helps rescue him in his time of need. Chloe has the tech skills to orchestrate an elaborate rescue plot. Think of how Benji broke Ethan Hunt out of prison in Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol, and there’s the answer to how Chloe could help Jack in the 24 Movie. Alternatively, Chloe could’ve evolved into a bad-ass action hero in the ten years since the series ended, and single-handedly rescue Jack.
Eric Carter
Eric Carter was the ex-military man who teamed up with CTU to stop a terrorist attack in the spin-off series, 24: Legacy, back in 2017. Corey Hawkins played Carter, and he was billed as the next Jack Bauer. However, the series was canceled after one season, so fans never got to see the character progress. Carter and Bauer never shared the screen, but it would be interesting to see the pair team up in the 24 Movie, with Carter leading a CTU team in a rescue mission.
Aaron Pierce
One of the most underrated heroes in the 24 universe is ex-secret service agent, Aaron Pierce. He served under a number of different presidents and always swore allegiance to his country. Pierce and Bauer teamed up on numerous occasions in the series, and he could lead a team on a trip to Russia to free Bauer.
