A new rumor indicates that the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 could be as powerful as the PS4 Pro. This contradicts other recent Nintendo Switch 2 rumors, which have pointed toward more powerful hardware that could run some recent triple-A titles.
Originally released in 2017, the Nintendo Switch sold over 146 million units globally, becoming one of the most popular video game consoles ever made. Due to its popularity, fans have been eagerly awaiting its successor. During a financial meeting in November, it was confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be officially announced before the end of the fiscal year, giving Nintendo until March 2025 to reveal the upcoming device.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Should Double Down on One of its Predecessor’s Best Features
Nintendo’s Switch successor is rumored to be taking a lot of cues from its predecessor, but doubling down on one customization feature could be huge.
Now, The Verge’s senior editor, Tom Warren, has highlighted a new rumor, which indicates that the Nintendo Switch 2 could be as powerful as the PS4 Pro, a last-gen console that was released in 2016. This directly contradicts other recent rumors, which started after a developer claimed that the Nintendo Switch 2 has very capable hardware that may be better than some people anticipated and that it could see more triple-A titles than the Switch did in the past. In any case, both rumors are all speculation at this point, so it’s prudent for gamers to await Nintendo’s official announcement before deciding what they think of the Switch 2’s hardware.
Rumor: Nintendo Switch 2 Could Be as Powerful as the PS4 Pro
Fortunately, there are plenty of rumors indicating more exciting features for the upcoming Switch 2. For instance, another recent rumor suggested that the Switch 2’s controllers will not have stick drift. As many Nintendo Switch players have discovered over the years, the Joy-Cons are susceptible to stick drift issues, but it seems that the Switch 2 could have magnetized Joy-Cons, which would be immune to this frustratingly common issue.
Despite worrisome rumors that the Switch 2 may not have powerful hardware, it’s fair to say that the device is still eagerly expected by countless gamers. A few weeks ago, for example, DFC Intelligence predicted that the Switch 2 will lead the console market from 2025 through 2028, selling around 17 million units in the first year and 20 million more in the second. This would only change after Sony and Microsoft release their upcoming next-gen consoles, which are still likely years away from launch. While it’s still too early to tell whether that will happen, Nintendo continues to be massively popular, and its next piece of hardware will likely be a massive hit.

The Nintendo Switch is a hybrid console launched in 2017, capable of being played in handheld mode or docked to a television. The Switch Lite, a handheld-only model, followed in 2019, with an OLED refresh coming in 2021.
