playstation gamers earn more pc

Key Takeaways

  • PlayStation gamers earn the most at $62,276 annually, followed by Nintendo at $60,527.
  • Those who played games as kids have $5,451 higher salaries than those who didn’t.
  • Playing FIFA, M-rated games like Doom, and other games could lead to higher earnings.

A study alleges that gamers on PlayStation make more money than those on PC or Xbox consoles. The gaming study also published a number of other statistics beyond those about PlayStation, including looking at the highest incomes versus the games played when the participants were children, and how those who played games in their childhood appeared to be more successful in their careers.

Video games have been around for decades, and in that time, public perception of them has gradually shifted. What was once a niche hobby and often blamed for real-world crime is now often celebrated, and in some cases, parents even encourage their kids to game in hopes of them becoming high-earning streamers or eSports stars someday. This study seems to add more evidence that childhood gaming experiences may not be a bad thing, and in some cases, may have benefited kids more than one might expect.

Survey Shows US Kids Want Game Subscriptions and In-Game Currency for Christmas More Than Actual Games

A new survey reveals that most children in the US prefer to get in-game currency or game subscriptions for Christmas instead of new games.

A study run by Prodigy Education looked at the kinds of games kids played, what systems they were on, and how much success they ended up having by the time they were adults. The survey encompassed responses from 1,001 Americans, and among other things, looked into the amount of success those who played games as a kid had. The study found that among those surveyed, PlayStation gamers were earning the most with an average salary of $62,276, followed by Nintendo at $60,527. On average, PlayStation gamers’ salaries were 12% higher than PC players and 4% more than Xbox. However, those who played on any game system at all were found to have $5,451 higher salaries than those who didn’t.

Looking at Individual Games Played

The study also considered which games kids played the most and how that may have impacted them. FIFA players earned the most, averaging over $70,000 annually, followed by Candy Crush and Doom players. Interestingly, the study found that kids who played M-rated games like Resident Evil, Mortal Kombat, Call of Duty, and the aforementioned Doom all experienced high earnings. Gaming at all – and especially playing Mature-rated games – has typically been blamed for poor behavior in kids and inspiring violence. While the study didn’t look into any potential violence, it generally found children who gamed performed better in school and in their careers.

Average Annual Salary by Games Played as a Child

  • FIFA – $70,711
  • Candy Crush – $69,903
  • Doom – $67,276
  • NBA 2K – $67,245
  • Madden NFL – $66,426
  • Mortal Kombat – $62,627
  • Resident Evil – $61,105
  • Call of Duty – $60,312

Of course, a study of this small size can’t say that these numbers are universal among gamers. However, it’s interesting to see that the general results of this study found gaming to be beneficial to kids and could potentially lead to more success in their future. With more kids gaming than ever, hopefully it has a positive impact on the next generation.
