Splitgate Fans Have Chance to Play the Sequel Early

While Splitgate 2 is not expected to be released until 2025, fans have an opportunity to check out the gameplay during a new playtest. With Splitgate 2 looking to build on the foundation of the original game as well as innovate with new ideas, this could be a good opportunity for excited fans to see how development on the first-person shooter is progressing.

Revealed in a cinematic trailer in July, Splitgate 2 looks to maintain the portal-jumping mayhem from the original game. However, it will come with some significant changes, including a faction system. So far, the developer, 1047 Games, has introduced three factions for Splitgate 2: Aeros, Meridian, and Sabrask, each with unique abilities, allowing fans to make tactical decisions when deciding on a team composition. In addition, players have options to customize their weapons. Ahead of the game’s free-to-play launch next year, 1047 Games is letting players go hands-on with the shooter again.

Recently, Splitgate 2 revealed a new playtest for gamers to participate in. Announced on the game’s official Twitter account, players can sign up for a chance to play the first-person shooter. According to the tweet, the development team for Splitgate 2 has been “cooking up something explosive” for players to test. While 1047 Games did not reveal any more details about what this could entail, this description could suggest a new weapon could be featured.

Splitgate 2 Announces New Playtest

The steps necessary to take part in this playtest are relatively simple. Players must fill out a short survey that asks several questions about their gaming background, such as which recent shooters they have played. It is worth pointing out this is not the first time players have had the opportunity to check out the gameplay for Splitgate 2, as 1047 Games has given players the chance to participate in playtests following its reveal. In fact, players who filled out the form for the October playtest do not need to sign up again, according to the developer.

So far, the excitement for the new game has been high for many in the FPS community. While the first game managed to put a spin on the traditional shooter experience by introducing the portal mechanic, Splitgate 2 is using Unreal Engine 5 and looks to feature more for players to engage with. Hopefully, this latest playtest will give 1047 Games valuable feedback to continue to iterate on the game to make it the best it can be for fans when it potentially releases next year.
