Solo Leveling is based on the web novel of the same name written by Chugong. It was originally published on KakaoPage but was later moved to D&C’s Papyrus label. Yen Press is responsible for publishing the web novel in English. So far, Solo Leveling has released 11 volumes.

A sequel to the web novel called Solo Leveling: Ragnarok was announced in April 2023. It acts as the prelude to the story of the original Solo Leveling.
