Rumor: Switch 2 Release Date Could Be Later Than Expected

According to the latest rumors, the next Nintendo console might not launch until after the first quarter of 2025. The long-awaited and highly-speculated successor to the Nintendo Switch was finally confirmed earlier this year, with Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa announcing that the console will be revealed sometime before the end of the current fiscal year in March 2025.

This has naturally sent the gaming world into a hailstorm of rumors, leaks, and speculation about when exactly Nintendo will reveal its next console, as well as when players can expect to own it. Past rumors have suggested that the reveal would take place sometime in October 2024, but the month is now more than half over without a hint of new Nintendo gaming hardware. Some sources are now saying that Nintendo did plan to unveil its new console this month, but circumstances have led to this being postponed.

In a hidden post on Famiboards (as reported by Comicbook), a user by the handle of RandomlyRandom67 shared details on component shipments that may or may not be related to the tentatively titled Switch 2 console. According to these details, the console did not enter mass production in August as many believed, meaning that it isn’t likely to launch during the first quarter of 2025 lest Nintendo risk running into supply issues. The company has previously stated that it would like to avoid the shortages that plagued the launches of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Next Nintendo Console Might Not Come Until Later in 2025

This means that Nintendo probably doesn’t want to rush the development of its next system, but the leaked shipments seem to suggest that mass production could begin soon. According to the newest rumors, Nintendo is currently stocking up on components to enter mass production as soon as the Switch 2 design is officially revealed. The console itself might not hit stores until the 2025 holiday season, though this might ultimately depend on when Nintendo finally shows its next gaming platform.

As for what this new console might look like, various leaks and rumors have hinted that the Nintendo Switch 2 will retain the console/handheld hybrid design of its predecessor, though its kickstand dock might be bulkier and feature an active cooling system. The supposed codename for this new console was also leaked as part of a massive data breach targeting Pokemon developer Game Freak, but it should be pointed out that none of this information has been officially verified as of this writing.
