A creative LEGO set inspired by the PlayStation 2 may be officially produced after being submitted by a fan. The unique build would allow fans to construct the legendary PS2 console out of LEGO bricks, down to its controllers and internal components.
First released in 2000, Sony’s PlayStation 2 went on to become the best-selling gaming console of all time until being dethroned by the Nintendo Switch in December 2024. Over 4,000 games would be released for the hardware during its lifespan, with the PS2 selling over 160 million units globally to date. 25 years later, the console’s legacy continues to be a common topic of conversation in the gaming space, with major releases for the Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, and Grand Theft Auto franchises on the PS2 dubbed some of the best. Recently, one creative fan found a new way to show love for Sony’s legendary home gaming console, and their design may eventually end up in homes around the world.

Nintendo Reveals Release Date for New LEGO Set
Two of Nintendo’s franchises and LEGO are collaborating again for several new themed sets that will release later in January 2025.
A post made by user RippleDrive on the LEGO Ideas website details plans for a LEGO PS2 set, which has garnered enough support to be officially considered by the Danish company for mass production. If released, the set would allow PlayStation fans to not only construct a PS2 console out of LEGO bricks, but also craft its controllers, memory cards, and internal components as well. In its current state, the set contains over 2,000 pieces and is close to 1:1 scale when compared to the original non-slim PlayStation 2. While it’s unclear whether it will get Sony’s approval, fans are keeping their fingers crossed that the design will appear on store shelves sometime in the future. According to RippleDrive, they chose to build the PS2 because it is their “favorite video game console of all time,” and “video game-related LEGO sets have been successful.”
User-Submitted PS2 LEGO Set May See Official Release
Throughout 2024, many LEGO sets inspired by video games found success with builders around the world, from those inspired by Animal Crossing: New Horizons to Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Mario 64. The release of LEGO Horizon Adventures for PC, PS5, and Nintendo Switch in November also inspired a unique set featuring protagonist Aloy, her ally Varl, and fully articulated Sawtooth and Shell-Walker machines.
In recent years, the series of LEGO video games created by Traveller’s Tales have found new popularity, with titles like the iconic LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga finding massive success following its initial release in 2022. While no new LEGO titles have been announced for 2025, fans are hoping to see some new crossovers, with many predicting that a new LEGO Marvel title may be on the horizon.

The PlayStation 2 was Sony’s direct “sequel” to their original PlayStation and stands as one of the best-selling and most beloved consoles of all time. With a catalog of amazing games, it stood strong against the GameCube and Xbox in the sixth-generation of the console wars.
