Pokemon Fan Shares Bug/Ground-Type Eeveelution

A Pokemon fan has created an interesting Eeveelution that turns the creature into a dual Bug/Ground-type. It’s an interesting twist, since Eevee lacks any dual-type evolutions, but also for how it looks, which is dividing Pokemon fans’ opinions.

Now that Pokemon has created unique evolutions and forms for numerous Pokemon, like Gigantamax, regional forms, paradox Pokemon, and so on, it’s only natural for fans to pick up the idea and run with it. However, long before all these unique variants came along, Eevee stood apart for having multiple evolutions that it could turn into. This has made Eevee one of the most popular Pokemon to give new evolutions to, and this is one of the latest examples.

Reddit user In-ProgressPokemon has shared some new fanart that has turned Eevee into a Bug/Ground-type. The dual-type Eeveelution is called Squirmeon, named for its new bug-inspired appearance. The Pokemon is primarily brown with shining blue eyes, and is caked in mud. However, the thing that’s standing out to most fans is that it looks like it has segmented bugs, like worms, wrapped around its limbs and neck, and its tail looks like a giant grub. As one might expect, the appearance has made some fans feel a little squeamish, though others have found it completely adorable.

Artist Explains Eeveelution’s New Appearance

In-ProgressPokemon has shared a backstory for Eevee, explaining how it developed this evolution and why it looks the way it does. In-ProgressPokemon imagines that this Eeveelution would happen if an Eevee spent a lot of time underground digging around for bugs to eat. Squirmeon would thus be really good at digging and would spend most of its time completely underground. This explains why it looks like it’s caked in mud, and the blue eyes are representative of the Eeveelution not having very good vision due to being under the earth most of the time. The Pokemon can also store nutrients in the wormy-looking parts of its body and tail, which can be drawn upon in dire circumstances.

While opinions on this particular Eeveelution are mixed, the fan artist is no stranger to creating designs for Eevee that have been better received. In-ProgressPokemon has shared Eevee fanart, including dual-type Eevelutions, numerous times in the past and has creative ideas behind them. Considering Eevee hasn’t received a new evolution in a long time, fans would probably love to see one of this artist’s designs become a reality. With that said, though, Squirmeon might not be at the top of the list among the artist’s works.
