Key Takeaways

  • A Pokemon fan designed Dragon/Dark-type variants for Tangela and Tangrowth inspired by the Greek myth of Medusa.
  • The Pokemon community enjoys reinterpreting classic creatures like Tangela, encouraging creativity and innovation.

A Pokemon fan has recently designed a new Dragon/Dark-type variant for Tangela and Tangrowth inspired by a mythological monster. The Pokemon community loves to reimagine popular creatures, and this design stands out due to the quality and creativity put into the artwork.

Tangela is a Grass-type creature originally introduced in the first generation of Pokemon games. During Gen 4, Tangela gained an evolution, Tangrowth, which could only be acquired by leveling up a Tangela after the critter had learned the Ancient Power move. In both forms, the Pokemon gets fairly powerful moves such as Giga Drain and Power Whip.

Now, a Pokemon fan called Just-Drawing-Mons came up with a Dragon/Dark-type variant for Tangela’s evolutionary line. In the drawing, Tangela and Tangrowth become monsters covered in yellow snakes instead of the usual blue vines. Also, Tangrowth gains a pair of huge claws, and both critters have much more menacing eyes than when compared to their original counterparts. According to Just-Drawing-Mons, the new design is greatly inspired by the Greek myth of Medusa, hence the snake hair.

Due to its unique appearance, Tangela and its evolution are often depicted in Pokemon fan art. A few months ago, one fan devised a Fairy-type variant of Tangela and Tangrowth. In this unique design, the vines around the creatures were reimagined as spaghetti covered in a red sauce, complete with a big fork on top of their heads. The design also came with a shiny variant, which had green sauce instead of red.

Another interesting regional variant of the Tangela evolutionary line appeared back in 2022. This design reimagined Tangela and Tangrowth as Grass/Water-type monsters that had their bodies covered in algae. While these new takes on these Pokemon recreated them with a body that had a very similar shape to the design of the original critters, the seaweed over these so-called “Elysian forms” gave them a pretty unique feel.

In another piece of fan art, one fan created a baby form for Tangela. Called Tanglebud, the new form was a creative design that imagined the monster as a tiny seed with the first sprouts of blue vines coming out of it, looking as adorable as baby Pokemon often are. Hopefully, other Pokemon fans will continue to devise new takes on classic creatures such as Tangela and Tangrowth, reinventing these amazing monsters and sharing the results with the community.
