A talented Pokemon fan has shared an impressive creation with the franchise’s community, showing off the latest upgraded version of their Pidgey animatronic. The flying-type pocket monster is one of the most recognizable creatures in all nine generations and a frequent common type in most of the Pokemon franchise’s video games. The tall grass areas are commonplace to find this feisty bird, and the animatronic is the closest fans have come to a real-life Pidgey.
Pokemon is one of the largest and most popular IPs in the world, beginning with Game Freak and Nintendo’s Game Boy games, then branching out into a successful trading card game, an ongoing anime, and several modern games on the Nintendo Switch. Wannabe Pokemon trainers even got a taste of Ash Ketchum’s life through the augmented reality mobile game Pokemon GO, and there’s a healthy pipeline of multimedia content still to come in the next year. With the spooky season well underway, Pokemon GO’s Halloween Event Part 2 is currently engaging players with seasonal costumes and Gigantamax festivities.

Posted on Reddit by Worldwarallen, a 46-second video showed the user holding the animatronic Pidgey like a living bird of prey. At a glance, the animatronic moves and sounds like a real bird, similar to another Pokemon fan’s experience of sighting a bird that looked like a real-life Pidgey. The creator noted that the animatronic’s reveal occurred last year, and since then, an upgraded version has been built to include mouth and wing movements while retaining the same animated head model from the original build.
Pokemon Fan Builds Realistic Pidgey Animatronic
Being one of the original pocket monsters from the Kanto region, fans love to bring the angry bird to life in various ways, including one Pokemon fan’s prehistoric design for Pidgey and its evolutions. The animatronic is by far one of the more jaw-dropping creations, and one Redditor thought the design resembled a Pidgeybot safari zone robot from the Pokemon Adventures manga. Furthermore, the creator showcased a full Viridian Forest Ranger cosplay to accompany the model.
Pidgey is a dual-type Normal/Flying Pokemon from Generation 1, and it evolves into Pidgeotto from level 18 and Pidgeot from level 36. Harnessing the Keen Eye and Big Pecks abilities, Pidgey soars alongside a host of Pokemon with the best flying-type moves, and the tiny bird has the attitude to pack a lot of power behind those attacks. The animatronic also managed to capture the bird’s brown and cream plumage, and naturally, requests began rolling in for the creator to build other Pokemon replicas, including one fan who asked for a life-sized Rayquaza.
