Some Overwatch 2 players have been fishing up a secret Easter egg that the developers at Blizzard Entertainment seem to have hidden in the game. The Easter egg in Overwatch 2 can only be found on the Antarctic Peninsula, and it seems to allude to a rare skin for one of the hero shooter’s most popular characters.
While plenty of games have added a fishing feature to let players whittle away their time casting fishing lines into the water as a side activity, Overwatch 2 is technically not one of them. However, players have found a different way to fish in Overwatch 2‘s Antarctic Peninsula map, and they’ve been doing so for nearly two years now. This different take on fishing involves firing rounds into specifically placed fishing holes, which causes fish to leap out of the holes and start flopping around on the nearby ice for a moment before disappearing.

Overwatch 2’s 2024 Winter Wonderland event has marked the arrival of a new set of challenges, which players can complete for rewards.
While this side feature was added to the game nearly two years ago, some players have made a new discovery while gun fishing. One of these players is Reddit user Wojtug, who shared a video of a bug-eyed goldfish leaping out of one of the holes and releasing shimmery gold particles into the air. Blizzard has made no announcement about adding another type of of fish to the Antarctic Peninsula map in Overwatch 2, but it’s not the first time players have seen this particular goldfish either.
Overwatch 2 Goldfish is a Throwback to a Popular Rare Skin
Some keen-eyed players have noticed that the goldfish resource used in the fishing activity is actually a reused asset of another fish featured on a popular Overwatch 2 character skin. The skin in question is Happi Genji, which was added to the original Overwatch through the Overwatch League in the summer of 2022. Upon its introduction, the skin quickly became popular, humanizing the samurai adventurer by removing his mask and placing him in shorts and a traditional Japanese short-sleeved festival coat. While the skin primarily uses green, white and brown tones, one bright blue accessory on his waist stands out: a plastic bag filled with water and a familiar-looking goldfish.
Some fans of the game have questioned Blizzard’s intentions with the goldfish, wondering whether there would be some sort of reward of achievement for players who have managed to shoot one up from an ice hole. However, since there still doesn’t seem to be any official announcement from Blizzard about it even existing, it just seems to be a fun new Overwatch 2 Easter egg.
