One Piece Fishman Island Remaster Just Removed An Amazing Scene
Summary
Table of Contents
- Fishman Island Re-Edition improves pacing and animation.
- Hilarious exchange between Luffy and Franky cut.
- Removal of meme was necessary for better arc pacing.
Since it started releasing at the end of 2024, One Piece: Fishman Island Re-Edition has been going strong, vastly improving the pacing and animation of the original arc. Although the bar was set fairly low and opinions of the original Fishman Island weren’t very high, the new release of the arc shows how much they care about the animation of the story. Overall, the new One Piece remaster has changed plenty of things for the better, which includes getting rid of plenty of filler scenes that were unnecessary to the plot.
However, due to this, one of the best parts of the original One Piece Fishman Island, was cut in, as it was deemed an unnecessary part of the arc. Although this may be true, this small exchange between Franky and Luffy was a scene that many fans loved. In fact, this scene was one of the funniest things to come out of One Piece’s Fishman Island Arc.

One Piece Fishman Island Re-Edition Fixes The Arcs Pacing
Sadly It Cuts A Hilarious Exchange
Ever since the anime went on a six-month hiatus in late 2024, rather than release new episodes, the anime released a reanimation of the controversial arc, Fishman Island. Called the One Piece Fishman Island Re-Edition, this new release set out to fix some of the weaker elements of the original arc. Improving animation, adding faster editing, and cutting unimportant scenes, the Re-Edition improves Fishman Island while keeping the spirit of the original.
That’s Den-Chan, brother of Tom, my master shipwright doing the decorating for us. – Franky
During the original Fishman Island, the polarizing One Piece arc included a small exchange between Franky and Luffy. In this exchange, Luffy, up to his usual antics, completely misinterprets Franky saying the phrase, “That’s Deb-Chan, brother of Tom, my master shipwright doing the decorating for us.” However, Luffy hears this as, “So, he’s a shipwright who’s coating Franky’s brother.” After around four uninterrupted seconds of silence, Franky just agrees with him and moves on.
The Franky And Luffy Exchange Was A Hilarious One Piece Meme
However It Was Unnecessary To The Plot
- This Exchange Between Luffy And Franky Is Funny And Endearing
- This Joke Helps The Crew Bond
For many fans, although the hilarious One Piece joke isn’t nearly as funny without the fantastic delivery of the characters, this was a great character moment between the two crew mates. Luffy, whose mind is always elsewhere, was barely listening to his shipwright. Franky’s shock at his captain’s sheer inattentiveness and lack of understanding made this an unforgettable scene.

Due to this, the exchange between two members of the Straw Hat Crew has become a bit of a meme and spread around the One Piece community and beyond. While it isn’t the funniest joke One Piece has to offer, it’s a good example of the usual antics the crew gets up to time and time again. For that reason, this joke is a perfect representation of what fans can expect from the series.
The Joke Killed The Pace Of One Piece Too Much
It Wouldn’t Have Been Funny Without The Silence
Sadly, during One Piece’s new Fishman Island, this scene has been completely cut. Although the scene was definitely a filler moment, with a lot of uninterrupted silence, it was something that many members of the community loved. Sadly, the scene was a necessary sacrifice for better pacing in the arc overall.
So, he’s a shipwright who’s coating Franky’s brother. – Luffy
However, although the scene was completely cut from the new Fishman Island Re-Edition, it may have been worth it to try and edit the scene down instead. Cutting out some of the unnecessary silence would make the joke way faster, and easier to fit into the new style of pacing. Despite having better pacing, sadly cutting too much silence out of the joke would ruin the spirit of the original. Without Franky’s stunned silence playing out in its full glory, the scene wouldn’t have worked nearly as well in the long run.
In the end, while Fishman Island Re-Edition has removed a funny One Piece meme that was beloved by the community, longer jokes like this one don’t have a place with the new style of pacing. For many, Fishman Island was the arc where One Piece’s pacing problems were becoming the most apparent. Cutting out scenes like this, although sad, vastly improves the overall watchability of One Piece’s most controversial arc.
