One Call of Duty Zombies Horror Crossover Would Be a Match Made in Heaven
The Call of Duty franchise is no stranger to crossovers. While Call of Duty: Ghosts first dipped its toes into the deep pool of pop-culture crossovers all the way back in 2014 with its collaboration with the Sci-Fi horror series Predator, Call of Duty: Warzone has since thrown the floodgates wide open.
Characters from Saw, Die Hard, Donnie Darko, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Warhammer 40,000, The Boys, Tomb Raider, and even Nicki Minaj herself have all appeared in Call of Duty over the last few years as paid Operator skins. But while Call of Duty seems happy to collaborate with just about any TV or movie IP, it seems a little reluctant to cross over with fellow video game franchises, which is a shame, as Resident Evil and Call of Duty would be a perfect pairing.

Capcom Has Proven Resident Evil Crossovers Aren’t Off The Table
While Call of Duty has rarely crossed over with other gaming franchises, the same can’t be said for Resident Evil. 2021 was a huge year for the Resident Evil franchise, being the series’ 25th anniversary. To mark the occasion, Capcom shared its beloved Resident Evil characters with the rest of the gaming world, resulting in a handful of notable crossovers.
Dead by Daylight probably had the biggest Resident Evil crossover of the bunch, adding Leon Kennedy and Jill Valentine as playable Survivors, adding the Nemesis as a playable Killer, and adding the Raccoon City Police Department as a new map. About a year later, Dead by Daylight would receive another Resident Evil crossover, this time adding Ada Wong, Rebecca Chambers, and Albert Wesker to the ever-growing roster of horror icons.
Two other prominent Resident Evil crossovers occurred in 2021. One of these saw a limited-time event come to Ubisoft’s The Division 2, where players could purchase a variety of skins based on the horror franchise’s cast, such as a Leon Kennedy RPD outfit, a Chris Redfield S.T.A.R.S. outfit, and an Umbrella Corporation uniform seemingly inspired by Resident Evil‘s Hunk.
2021 also saw Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine head to Fortnite, with the former receiving outfits based on his appearances in Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil Village, and the latter getting outfits based on her appearance in the original 1996 Resident Evil and Resident Evil 3 Remake. Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield have since come to Fortnite as well.
A Call of Duty x Resident Evil Crossover Just Makes Sense
Capcom seems to be pretty willing to play ball, and a crossover with Call of Duty Zombies would make a lot of sense. Tone-wise, Call of Duty Zombies and Resident Evil are quite similar, with both using one-liners and quips to alleviate the games’ strong violence and horror. Both games also share a penchant for puzzles, with Resident Evil having its environmental puzzles and Call of Duty Zombies having its community-driven Easter eggs. And of course, both games are action-heavy experiences.
At the very least, it’d be great to get a set of Call of Duty Operator skins based on the Resident Evil franchise, letting players mow their way through hordes on Liberty Falls, Terminus, and Citadelle des Morts while looking like Leon Kennedy, Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, or Claire Redfield. This bundle would be made even better if it came with unique voicelines for each character, recorded by their current actors.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6‘s third-person mode would make these hypothetical Resident Evil skins feel even more authentic.
But what would really make it a dream Call of Duty x Resident Evil crossover is if it came alongside an in-game event that tweaked Call of Duty‘s Zombies mode. For instance, the limited-time event could reskin Call of Duty: Black Ops 6‘s Mangler enemy to look like one of Resident Evil‘s Tyrants, and make the Vermin look like Resident Evil‘s Cerberus zombie dogs.
