Obsidian 'Happy' With Avowed Sales and Could Pursue Expansions and Sequels
Summary
- Obsidian is pleased with Avowed’s sales.
- Avowed’s director Carrie Patel wants to do more with the game’s world.
A new report has claimed that Obsidian Entertainment is happy with Avowed‘s sales, with confirmation that the studio may consider expansions and sequels to the game. It wasn’t clear whether Avowed‘s presence on Xbox Game Pass on day one would harm its sales, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.
Upon its recent release, Avowed‘s reviews were largely positive. The game’s combat came in for high praise, although its often-static world and some elements of the story left it feeling like a flawed experience for many. Avowed currently sits at “Mostly Positive” reviews on Steam, indicating that players are having a good time with it overall. It seems that even the flawed elements of the game haven’t been enough to detract gamers from giving Avowed a try.

Avowed Apparently Has an ‘Exceptionally Rare’ Ending
Avowed’s composer teases a highly rare ending sequence in the recently-released fantasy RPG that may remain elusive to many players.
In a report by Bloomsberg’s Jason Schreier, it was confirmed that “the company said it is happy with sales so far,” and of what Avowed director Carrie Patel is planning next, states, “The idea of something new is appealing, she said, but it seems more likely she’ll be building on Avowed’s foundation for expansions or sequels.” Patel herself said, “Now that we’ve built this wonderful world, and also built this team strength and muscle memory around the content and gameplay in this world, I’d love to see us do more with it,” suggesting there could be more to come from Avowed in 2025.
Obsidian May Pursue an Avowed Sequel After Strong Sales
The report featured plenty more details about the long development of Avowed. It was even revealed that Avowed was originally a multiplayer take on Skyrim, with Obsidian rebooting the game twice before settling on the final iteration seen on release. The game has been in the works since 2018, so it’s good to see that Obsidian’s gamble on something fresh has seemingly paid off.
If Obsidian does choose to pursue expansions or a sequel to Avowed, it isn’t clear how long that would take to come to fruition. The studio remains committed to the development of The Outer Worlds 2, which is currently slated to launch later in 2025. It’s worth remembering that it did release expansions to the original The Outer Worlds, even as the development of Avowed ramped up a few years ago, so it’s certainly possible that the studio will work on both simultaneously.
