Ninja Gaiden 2 Black – Chapter 1 Walkthrough (All Secrets, Chests, & Collectibles)

Start/Chest 1 and Chest 2

Chapter 1 of Ninja Gaiden 2 Black will throw players right into a fight in front of ‘Muramasa’s.’ Here, you’ll fight against a couple of enemies while you learn the ins and outs of combat, like using light and heavy attacks and dodging.

Once the initial fight ends, a cutscene will play out, and then another fight will happen. Once everything has calmed down, run to the alley to the left of Muramasa’s (if you’re facing the shop). You’ll find a treasure chest containing a Herb of Spiritual Life.

You can find a second Herb of Spiritual Life inside Muramasa’s. Once you’re done, head out the shop and head down the path to the left.

Head through the gate and run down the wooden path until you reach the save point. Interacting with the statue will completely heal Ryu. However, you’ll have to deal with a couple of baddies before doing so.

Chest 3

The door to the right of the save point dragon statue will open once you save your progress.

Step into the building to fight off against a couple of bad guys once again. Reach the end of the hallway to find a glowing chest containing some Blue Essence, which can recover Ryu’s wounds.

Chest 4

Head around to the next hallway, and you’ll see some enemies wall-running towards you. Once they’re taken care of, fall into the hole in the ground to find a chest containing the Technique of Shadowless Footsteps scroll.

Don’t worry –you’re not stuck down here. Climb the nearby ladder and use the wall run to make it over the gap to the next section. Face the wall while running, jump, and then you should be able to perform the maneuver.

Chest 5

Head into the next room, and you’ll immediately see a chest (however, there are some enemies here, so maybe deal with them before you get greedy). The chest has the Scroll for the Reverse Wind Technique.

Chest 6 (Lives of the Thousand Gods)

After dealing with the enemies here, check out the chest at the altar at the front of the room (you can’t miss it). Inside, you will find one of the more important items in Ninja Gaiden 2 Black: Lives of the Thousand Gods. This will permanently increase Ryu’s maximum health.

Crystal Skull

If you’re facing the chest altar where we just picked up the Lives of the Thousand Gods, look over to the right to find a glowing Crystal Skull. After picking up the collectible, simply drop down (you won’t get hurt) to reach a different area of the level.

Chest 7

Head into the nearby room to fight off some enemies. Kick open the chest near the staircase to find a Herb of Spiritual Life.

Chest 8

After you grab the healing item, go upstairs to find yet another chest. This one has the Art of the Inferno Scroll. After you learn this new move, enemies will surround you.

Chest 9

Head up the nearby staircase (to the right of the last chest if you’re facing it) to find another chest. This one contains some of that Red Essence we just talked about. This will replenish your power to cast Ninpo. More firepower equals easy kills.

Next, just head through the door near the treasure chest (pictured below):

Follow the path, and some more enemies will approach you via a wall. Cast Ninpo from afar to get ahead of the fight. Wall run over to the other side and continue the path until you get to another gap in the floor.

You must swing on the pole sticking out of the wall to get to the other side, but you might want to deal with the foes first. And once you do swing over, you’ll have to contend with a couple more baddies (sorry!)

Once these guys are dealt with, continue on the path (to the right of the Caution sign) to find a good ol’ Save Point.

In front of the save point is a ready body you can examine to learn the Flying Bird Technique, allowing Ryu to flip back and forth up two walls that are close to each other. You just need to run up a wall and press the jump button repeatedly.

Once you’re outside with all the pretty cherry blossoms flying around, cross the short bridge and then turn left to face some enemies.

When the enemies are dead, go ahead and hop into the water (it’s not deep) and run all the way to the opposite side to find a treasure chest near another bridge. The chest has Red Essence to refill your Ki.

Get back on the main path, taking a right once you reach a wall of bamboo. Continue to run down the staircase for another encounter.

After that fight, keep going, and you’ll see a man shooting arrows from a bridge. You can cast your Ninpo to take him down.

Chest 10

After passing the guy on the bridge, you’ll see a ladder on the right. Go down it to find a chest with some Blue Essence.

Chest 11 (Life of the God)

Continue down the path on this same level to find some henchmen to take care of. Once they’re gone, go to the dead end to find a chest with a Life of the God.

Turn around and return to the ladder you came down from. Continue forward to fight off some more baddies, using the poles to cross the gaps in the floor.

Chest 12

After fighting against some more bad guys, you’ll eventually reach a ladder and a Save Point. Go up the ladder and immediately turn to the right to find another chest with some Red Essence.

Turn around and run forward to find a dead body on the ground with The Flying Swallow Technique Scroll. Continue forward until you reach a rather large group of enemies.

Once the fight ends, a door will open to the large building.

Chest 13

When you head inside, look to your left to find a chest with some Red Essence (save some for the boss fight coming up soon).

On the opposite side of the room is a Dragon statue for you to heal and save.

Lunar Staff

And now, most importantly, go ahead and grab the new weapon: the Lunar Staff. It’s right in the middle of the room.

After that, leave the room and head right to find a newly opened path. You’ll immediately walk over a dead body containing the Ultimate Technique Scroll.

Continue to reach an enemy-infested bridge –the perfect opportunity to pull off the Ultimate Technique you just learned about.

Keep progressing and enter the Japanese home to immediately find the Scroll for the Technique of Ultimate Guidance. Take a left out of the room to enter a courtyard with more enemies to take on.

Chest 14

Once the area is clear, enter through the newly opened door inside the home to find another chest. This one has Yellow Essence, using for purchasing stuff at the shop.

Two ninjas will pop out of nowhere, breaking walls in the room in the process. Once they are taken care of, enter the hallway where they came from to leave the building. You’ll come across a small area with even more enemies (and a well)!

You can also upgrade weapons and purchase items at the Shop!

Defeat the baddies and jump in the well to continue Chapter 1 of Ninja Gaiden 2 Black.

Chest 15

When you go down into the new area, you’ll eventually reach a point where you obviously need to wall run to reach the next section. Instead, look over to the right to find another chest with a Herb of Spiritual Life.

Chest 16

Now, do the wall run move to reach the next platform. Continue on, and you’ll spot a glowing chest in the distance with a Herb of Spiritual Life.

Walk on the path you just came from, and you’ll see a part where the railing is broken –you can use this gap to jump down to the lower level.

Once you drop, you’ll face a dead end. Turn around to find a dead body with the Furious Wind Technique Scroll.

Continue in this direction, and some enemies will show up to make your day a little crappy. After that, keep running, sit back, and enjoy a cutscene. Once it ends, you’ll be in a new area and have to fight two clawed enemies.

Use the nearby Save Point once the area is clear to recover Ryu’s health.

Chest 17

Follow the main path until you reach a staircase going up and another going down. For now, head down to find a chest containing a Devil’s Way Mushroom (this restores some Ki).

Now, return to the main floor and then head up the other set of stairs. On this floor, some enemies will immediately ambush Ryu.

After dealing with them, head up the next set of stairs to find another treasure chest. And what do you know? It’s another Herb of Spiritual Life!

You can go one floor down, turn left, and then take a right to go down a hallway.

You’ll see an open door on the left. And in this room, you’ll see a ladder on the left-hand side. This will take you to an elevator shaft, so you can use your wall-jumping powers to flip back and forth to gain height.

In this new room, some enemies will ambush you. Clear the area and take a left to find a Save Point dragon statue.

Chest 18

However, if you go to the right, you will not only find a treasure chest with Grains of Spiritual Life, but you can also check out the wares at the shop.

Head up the stairs by the save point to reach another gang of villains.

Once the fight ends, go to the door in the room, and a cutscene will commence. Get ready for the boss fight for Chapter 1 of Ninja Gaiden 2 Black.

How to Beat Shadow Ninja Rasetsu

Being the first major boss of the game, Shadow Ninja Rasetsu isn’t too bad to take down. Here are some tips to help y’all out. (We’ve also included a video of our gameplay as an additional resource).

• Don’t be afraid of using any Ki-replenishing items to use your Art of the Inferno Ninpo three times. Each blast can take out a good chunk of health.
• Hold your Strong Attack button to charge up a really strong Ultimate move(Y/Triangle).
• You can use your healing items while getting attacked.
• Keep your distance.
• Try using the Lunar Staff for the fight if you’re having issues with the Dragon Sword.
• Remember to block! (LB/L1)
