Mysterious Sonic the Hedgehog Character Gets a Name Three Years After Her First Appearance

Sonic the Hedgehog fans have finally gotten a name for a character that first appeared in Sega’s TailsTube web series nearly three years ago – Professor Victoria. This specific character has been stirring observant Sonic the Hedgehog fans into a frenzy for a while, ever since Sega was promoting 2022’s Sonic Frontiers.

For proper context, SEGA and Sonic Team started a Sonic the Hedgehog Vtuber webseries called TailsTube, where Miles “Tails” Prower hosts a series of “livestreams” with his friends, usually to clarify some longstanding franchise lore. The first episode in particular established how Sonic‘s world worked, showing off some of the human characters from Sonic Unleashed. One character that stood out to fans in this cast shot was a pink-haired woman, who was a seemingly new character. While she was thought to be a character for Frontiers, due to its close release date and Sonic writer Ian Flynn teasing some sort of importance regarding her, she ultimately didn’t show up. The latest TailsTube episode finally gives this character a name.

In the latest TailsTube episode, Tails is calling all of his friends and asking about their New Year’s resolutions. Eagle-eyed Sonic fans noticed a new book in the background of his layout, which featured the same pink-haired woman from the first episode of TailsTube. The book on Tails’ desk is called “The Mystery of History,” authored by Professor Victoria. The title of the book clearly alludes to Professor Victoria’s enigmatic nature, but her name carries plenty of important connections to Sonic‘s lore.

Why is Professor Victoria So Important to Sonic’s Lore?

Shadow Generations includes a copy of Professor Gerald’s diary, which details the character’s life and his work in creating Shadow the Hedgehog. In the journal, there is a letter from the archival department addressed to G.U.N. Commander Abraham Tower, who says they wanted to know more about Gearld and Maria Robotnik’s lives, signed by T. In the Japanese localization of the journal, it is signed by Torii. This connection became more significant when the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 film featured Professor Victoria as an Easter Egg on a billboard, giving her the name of Professor Torii. These are, however, still unconfirmed theories right now.

Professor Victoria has clearly been teased for three years now, yet fans still know nothing about her. In light of Shadow Generations‘ release, one theory is that she’s Maria Robotnik’s sister and Victoria’s apparent occupation as a historian gives her a connection to the G.U.N. military organization, seeing as she also wanted to know more about Maria and Gerald. Fans are wondering if she’ll also make an appearance in the upcoming Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds or the next mainline title, since Sega’s been teasing her for so long.
