My Happy Marriage Season 1: A Genre-Bending Romance
Through its remarkable genre-bending approach, My Happy Marriage proved to be one of the best romance anime in recent years.
As it turns out, there are supernatural elements weaved into the story, involving monsters called the “Grotesquerie” and people who wield various supernatural powers called the “Gift”. Talking about the Grotesquerie is certainly fun, but let’s start with these fascinating Gifts first. With that in mind, here’s every gift that has been shown in My Happy Marriage thus far.
10
Spirit-Sight
The Ability to See Supernatural Monsters
- User: Kiyoka Kudou, Kaya Saimori, and more
- First Appearance: Episode 2
The Grotesquerie is like ghosts. They exist and they can hurt people, but they can’t be seen by regular people. In order to see the Grotesquerie, one needs to possess an ability called the Spirit-Sight.
Spirit-Sight is usually the first ability that is manifested to Gifted people. Some awaken this ability when they are just an infant, while others may become a toddler first before being able to use their Spirit Sight. That’s why this is the first sign that most people would look for in order to find out whether a child is Gifted or not.
9
Pyrokinesis
The Ability to Conjure Fire
- User: Kiyoka Kudou, Minoru Tatsuishi, and more
- First Appearance: Episode 3
As the name suggests, Pyrokinesis is the ability to create and manipulate fire. The gift of Pyrokinesis is actually quite common. In a battle against the Grotesquerie, viewers can always find a couple of soldiers who can use Pyrokinesis.
The main difference between the wielders of this gift is the intensity of the fire. Most people can only use their Pyrokinesis to create fire at the same intensity as a regular flamethrower. Somebody from an elite lineage like Kiyoka, however, can easily create a tower of fire that can engulf the entire forest with his Pyrokinesis.
8
Dream-Sight
The Ability to Infiltrate Dreams
- User: Miyo Saimori
- First Appearance: Episode 5
From fairly common gifts like Spirit-Sight and Pyrokinesis, we jump straight to one of the rarest gifts in the series, Dream-Sight. This Gift is specifically passed down to the members of the Usuba family. Even then, not every Usubas can awaken this Gift. Currently, Miyo Saimori is the only one who can use Dream-Sight.

All her life, Miyo Saimori believed she was worthless for being giftless. However, she has the rarest gift of all: Dream-Sight.
Dream-Sight is different from the other gifts because it can only be used to target humans, not Grotesquerie. After all, the user of this ability can basically invade other people’s dreams. From scaring them to manipulating their desire, a Dream-Sight user can do whatever they want in other people’s dreams and see its effect in the waking world.
7
Telekinesis
The Ability to Move Objects
- User: Minoru Tatsuishi, Kazushi Tatsuishi, and more
- First Appearance: Episode 5
The Telekinesis in My Happy Marriage is the same as the telekinesis in other fictional stories. It is an ability to move objects without having to physically touch said objects. This ability can be considered quite rare, but certainly not as rare as the Dream-Sight.
Similar to Pyrokinesis, the power level of every Telekinesis user is wildly different from one another. There are people who can only move small objects around them, but there are also people who can use their telekinesis to lift heavy objects miles away from them.
6
Electrokinesis
The Ability to Conjure Electricity
- User: Kiyoka Kudou, Tadakiyo Kudou
- First Appearance: Episode 6
Electrokinesis is similar to Pyrokinesis in the sense that it is an ability that allows its user to create and manipulate natural elements. Pyrokinesis is all about fire, while Electrokinesis is all about electricity. That being said, Electrokinesis is a much rarer gift than Pyrokinesis.
We’ve seen Electrokinesis in action in the first season of My Happy Marriage. In his wrathful moment, Kiyoka Kudou uses this gift to summon a lighting that destroys everything around him. While this display of power is certainly terrifying, it’s worth noting that Kiyoka’s Electrokinesis is an exception, not the norm. Forget conjuring lighting, most people with this gift can only create a small amount of electricity that can only be used to jolt other people.
5
Aerokinesis
The Ability to Control the Wind
- User: Minoru Tatsuishi, Tadakiyo Kudou, and more
- First Appearance: Episode 6
Out of every type of elemental-based gift that we’ve talked about thus far, Aerokinesis is arguably the most interesting one. This gift allows its user to manipulate the wind. In the hands of a trained practitioner like Minoru Tatsuishi, it can even be used to create a mini tornado that can destroy two-story houses with ease.

Miyo and Kiyoka are back in season 2 of My Happy Marriage, with new obstacles coming their way including meeting Kiyoka’s parents.
In terms of rarity, Aerokinesis is quite similar to Electrokinesis. It’s quite rare, but you can certainly find other people who can use this gift, especially in the military and in the Special Anti-Grotesquerie Unit. And just like the other elemental-based gifts in this list, the power of Aerokinesis varies from one user to the next.
4
Divine Revelation
The Ability to See the Future
- User: Emperor, Takaihito
- First Appearance: Episode 8
Divine Revelation is similar to Dream-Sight in the sense that this is a gift that only appears in a single family. In this case, this is the trademark ability of the Imperial lineage. In fact, in order to be acknowledged as a candidate for the future Emperor, one needs to have the gift of Divine Revelation.
As the name suggests, Divine Revelation is an ability that allows its users to see a glimpse of the future. To use it, the user simply needs to close their eyes and concentrate. Vivid scenes of events that will happen in the near future will appear in their mind, sometimes accompanied by sounds as well. Numerous Emperors throughout history managed to avoid terrible disasters thanks to this gift.
3
Hallucikinesis
The Ability to Create Illusions
- User: Arata Usuba
- First Appearance: Episode 10
Hallucikinesis is another ability that only manifests within the Usuba family. And just like Dream-Sight, the main target of this gift is humans, not Groesquerie. This gift allows its user to create hyperrealistic illusions that can affect the target’s five senses.
A trained user of Hallucikinesis can even create an illusion of a person and have the target interact with it. It is so realistic that even the targets themselves would insist that the illusion is real. This is the reason why Hallucikinesis is one of the most nefarious gifts in the series.
2
Healing
The Ability to Heal Injuries
- User: Hazuki Kudou, Fuyu Kudou
- First Appearance: Episode 10
Most of the gifts in this series are offensive abilities that are useful in a battle, be it against humans or grotesquerie. It’s all about combat, violence, and manipulation. Healing and Divine Revelation are the two main exceptions to this norm.

The Medical Anime You MUST Watch This Season (That Isn’t Apothecary Diaries)
Winter 2025 features Dr. Ameku Takao’s Detective Karte, the exciting OTHER medical anime out this season that is definitely worth watching.
As a gift, Healing is quite straightforward. This ability allows its users to heal other people. Once again, the type of injuries that can be healed with this ability depends highly on the users themselves. But for the most part, they can easily heal minor injuries like small cuts or bruises.
1
Telepathy
The Ability to Connect Minds
- User: Sumi Saimori
- First Appearance: Episode 10
In most fictional stories, telepathy is usually an ability to communicate with other people directly through their minds. While the principle is the same, the way Telepathy works in My Happy Marriage is quite different than the norm.
In this series, those who possess the gift of telepathy can transfer their memories, their thoughts, and their feelings to other people without having to touch them or even be around them. This is a gift that affects the minds of humans, not Grotesque. So as you can probably guess by now, this is one of the trademark gifts of the Usuba family.
At the time of writing, the second season of My Happy Marriage has just begun. Since this list is based on the gifts that we’ve seen in the first season, we will certainly add some new entries if new gifts appear in the second season. So stay tuned.
