Table of Contents
- Mr. Osomatsu getting a new season in July 2025.
- New season directed by Yoshinori Odaka, replacing Youichi Fujita.
- Story follows lazy NEET Matsuno brothers with unique personalities.
Mr. Osomatsu, also known as Osomatsu-san, is getting a new season this year. The series was an unexpected hit back in 2015. It is, at the same time, one of the most genius and most simple ideas for reviving an old, established franchise.
Osomotsu-kun has long been a beloved name among the Japanese audience. It’s a story created by Fujio Akatsuka revolving around the sextuplet brothers of the Matsuno family. It’s a lighthearted comedy aimed at kids. To celebrate the author’s 80th birthday, the new series reimagines the Matsuno brothers as fully grown adults, infusing the story with a more mature tone while still preserving its comedic essence. Despite Osomatsu-kun‘s limited international recognition, the new series, available on Crunchyroll, has successfully garnered attention from global audiences.

The 2010s were an interesting year for anime, as various beloved series for the past were brought back to life or continued with spin-offs.
Now it has been revealed the fourth season is set to debut in July 2025. A tighter release date is yet to be revealed. Together with the release window, a new trailer has been shared:
Mr. Osomatsu Staff And Premise
Each Sextuplet Has Their Own Personality
Mr. Osomatsu‘s seasons have been handled by studio Pierrot (Bleach, Naruto, Black Clover). Seaons 1-3 were directed by prominent Youichi Fujita, who had previously directed many Gintama episodes and movies.
In the next season, Yoshinori Odaka is replacing Fujita as director. Odaka has worked on previous seasons and directed a movie released in 2022. He also directed the well-received Mr. Villain’s Day Off anime adaptation. But some fans might be a bit wary, since the 2022 film had a mixed reception among the niche. All seasons have been written by Shuu Matsubara, who also previously wrote episodes for Gintama, so we can expect a similar tone to the previous episodes on that front.
In the story, all the Matsuno brothers have become lazy NEETs. We follow their daily lives as they struggle with many mundane things, like getting a job. The highest point of the anime is that they are all different from each other. Each one of the brothers has their own traits and personality, so even though they all look alike, fans are able to easily distinguish them after watching the show for some time.
Other characters from the original Osomatsu-kun story are also back, and most of them have some shady side to their personalities too, adding to the fun of the story. The show is basically a parody of a children’s cartoon, and it has resonated well with both Japanese and international audiences.
Mr. Osomatsu is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
