Summary

  • Nata, an NPC in Monster Hunter Wilds, is causing concern among players due to his emotional behavior in gameplay footage.
  • Fans are worried Nata’s crying may lead to him becoming a liability during missions, potentially affecting gameplay.
  • Capcom revealed post-launch content for Monster Hunter Wilds, including a free update in Spring 2025 with the impressive leviathan, Mizutsune.

Monster Hunter Wilds is altering its blueprint for a refreshing adventure in the Forbidden Lands, but one NPC called Nata is causing players concern before the game has even launched. Nata is described as a human male who follows players on their journey throughout the game’s world, but footage of the character crying has left the Monster Hunter Wilds community thinking he will become somewhat of a liability during missions.

Monster Hunter Wilds serves as a successor to 2018’s Monster Hunter: World, and will return fans to their Hunter role in an attempt to locate a missing expedition party in a world filled with mammoth monsters. Monster Hunter Wilds’ release times have been confirmed, so players can narrow down their first playthrough window ahead of the game’s full launch on February 28, and gamers can enjoy the hunt for either PC, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series consoles.

Posted on Reddit by Kibido993, a screenshot of Nata crying with his head in his hands was shared on the Monster Hunter subreddit. The caption read, “Is this guy gonna cry the whole game?,” alluding to fans’ annoyance despite the game not even being released yet. Monster Hunter Wilds’ named NPCs could be a progressive step for the franchise to break the old tradition of anonymous NPCs, but Nata’s namesake has done nothing to win players over, unfortunately.

Monster Hunter Wilds Fans Think NPC Nata Will Become a Liability

Fans believe Monster Hunter Wilds’ settlements open the door for more intense missions, but Redditors were concerned those high-octane missions may involve rescuing Nata too often. One user predicted Nata would run away several times during the main story, and it would be the Hunter’s mission to rescue him, possibly leading to nearly half of Wilds’ big monster encounters. Others defended Nata, pointing out that the characters hadn’t even spawned in the game yet, and he was already receiving hate. Lastly, another user defended Nata’s crying, saying that his dialogue supposedly hints at his tribe being lost to Arkveld, suggesting the boy has a reason to be emotional.

Capcom revealed Monster Hunter Wilds’ post-launch content during Sony’s February State of Play, confirming a free update would be released in Spring 2025 featuring the impressive leviathan, Mizutsune. The serpent was described as deploying dance-like attacks with the ability to secrete foam and bubbles as a way of increasing mobility. Furthermore, it was confirmed Event Quests would be available the week after launch, around the first week in March, which will allow players to earn in-game armor with “special looks.”
