Marvel Rivals Devs May Have Planted Fake Characters to Catch Leakers
Summary
- Recent Marvel Rivals character leaks may be fake to catch leakers.
- Plenty of unconfirmed rumors about future Marvel Rivals characters exist.
- Speculation continues about the authenticity of leaked characters, creating uncertainty.
Some of the recent Marvel Rivals character leaks might be fake, as part of a ploy by the developers to catch leakers. A big part of Marvel Rivals’ appeal is its character roster, which consists of 35 famous Marvel heroes and villains as of this writing. NetEase has promised gamers that more characters will be added as the live-service hero shooter continues its lifespan, with the only two officially confirmed at this time being the Thing and The Human Torch of The Fantastic Four.
There have been many unconfirmed leaks and rumors suggesting that certain characters will be added to Marvel Rivals in the future. Among the list of names being dropped are beloved X-Men characters like Gambit, Rogue, and Jubilee, the ever-popular Merc with a Mouth Deadpool, and even the Parker Robbins version of Ghost Rider. One of the most recent Marvel Rivals leaks seems to indicate that Nightcrawler, yet another mutant who is popular with fans of the Marvel comics, movies, and animated shows, is coming to the game as a Duelist.

Of course, none of these Marvel Rivals rumors have been officially verified, and now it seems that some of them might have been made up by the developers at NetEase. According to Dexerto, an admin on the Marvel Rivals Discord recently sent a message stating that they believe the game’s development staff has fabricated some of the Marvel Rivals character leaks by planting fake references to them in source code and allowing inside sources to spread false word of them. This was reportedly done to catch leakers by getting them to expose themselves through the fake leaks.
Recent Marvel Rivals Character Leaks Might Be Fake
Just like with the leaks themselves, there is currently no official confirmation that NetEase released false information about future Marvel Rivals characters, adding a level of confusion and uncertainty to any further rumors about the game and its upcoming roster additions. Dataminers like Twitter’s zvis_ceral have tried to identify which Marvel Rivals leaks are real, with certain heroes like Deadpool and Blade believed to be genuine. Meanwhile, potential characters like Professor X, Beast, and Gambit are now suspected of being planted.
This is all just speculation based on leaked source code and unverified rumors, so absolutely nothing about this latest Marvel Rivals development should be taken at face value for the time being. Of course, this is probably the outcome NetEase wanted if it did plant fake Marvel Rivals leaks to trick fans, as everyone is now left guessing about the future of Marvel’s online multiplayer hit.
