Marvel Rivals confirms recent false wave bans impacting certain players, which have now been identified and fixed by NetEase. Following a successful beta session earlier in 2024, the highly anticipated multiplayer shooter Marvel Rivals has quickly become a massive hit for NetEase, with Season 1 right around the corner.
Alongside a constant flow of new content, the hot start for Marvel Rivals was aided by the fact that the game launched with minimal issues, allowing fans to log in and get to playing right away. When compared with other games in the genre, a smooth launch isn’t always guaranteed as Overwatch 2 suffered significant server and login problems on launch day. However, Marvel Rivals hasn’t been free of issues, with some players recently coming up against bans for seemingly no reason.

Cheating in games like Marvel Rivals remains a high priority issue, with studios spending plenty of time and resources on removing those who attempt to circumvent the rules. However, in the case of Marvel Rivals, certain players using compatibility layer programs like CrossOver have recently been targeted and flagged as cheaters by the system, resulting in bans being issued. Compatibility layer programs are used to allow players to run the game on unsupported operating systems, and due to the recent ban wave, many have been reporting these false bans to NetEase.
Marvel Rivals Addresses Recent False Ban Issues
In a post on the official Marvel Rivals Discord channel, one of the community managers addresses recent ban problems, apologizing to those who have been affected. Users who were using compatibility layer programs legitimately were incorrectly flagged as cheaters and have since been lifted. NetEase has also identified the reasons behind these false flags and has adjusted its systems behind the scenes to prevent future issues like this from happening again. For Marvel Rivals players who think they’ve been incorrectly reported and banned, they should make an appeal to the customer support team via the in-game menus or from Discord.
The false ban issue isn’t the only controversy currently impacting the game, as Marvel Rivals players are unhappy with the use of bots. Essentially, players have discovered that after at least 2 losses, they’re placed in a bot lobby, mixing real players and AI without specifically indicating anything. The discovery has divided many players, with some being okay with it since it appears to be restricted to Quickplay matches, while others feel that it detracts from competitive integrity.
