However, it’s not at first clear how the Kuttenberg tournament works in KCD2, and players may not know how to unlock it in the first place. This guide will explain everything players need to know about the Kuttenberg tournament in KCD2, but before entering one, they may want to brush up on their combat skills.

How To Unlock The Kuttenberg Tournament In KCD2

After players reach Kuttenberg in KCD2 and explore, they may notice a tournament ground by the southwest gate and bathhouse. However, there are no markers about where to start the Kuttenberg tournament.

This is because nobody is currently running it, as there is a dispute over who will run the swordfighting guild in Kuttenberg. Henry can help resolve this issue, by completing the Ars Dimicatoria side quest in the city, and by doing so, he will eventually unlock the tournament.

The Ars Dimicatoria Side Quest – Help Either Sword Brotherhood

To start the Ars Dimicatoria quest, players will need to talk to Menhard von Frankfurt, who can be heard offering sword training in the market street where there are lots of blacksmiths and armorers.

Players should then progress through this quest, however they see fit, choosing which faction to support and how to go about it. Eventually, the dispute will be decided with swords, in a tournament of sorts.

In the interest of unlocking the weekly tournament, these duels determine who will run them, so winning doesn’t matter too much, although Henry will gain rewards for helping his chosen faction win.

Wait A Few Days After The Tournament

The victors will need a few days to get things back in order after winning the rights to teach sword fighting and run tournaments. When all is ready, players will get a notification from the Ars Dimicatoria quest.

Head here to the yard of the swordfighting guild. Talk to either Menhard von Frankfurt or Master Nicholas of Prague, depending on who won. Henry can ask them about the weekly Kuttenberg tournament.

How To Start The Kuttenberg Tournament In KCD2

The Kuttenberg tourney is held every 7 days, and Henry should always head to the swordfighting guild to sign up. Here, he should talk to Menhard or Nicholas.

Henry will have the option to enter up to three separate events, each costing 100 Groschen per entry. He can choose to enter just one, two, or all three events.

Waiting For The Tournament To Start

After signing up for the tournament, Menhard or Nicholas will tell Henry how many in-game days are left till the next one starts. Here, players have an option to stay at the guild and wait, but it will cost a small sum for food in the meantime.

Be wary of advancing time like this, as some quests are time-based. The world will move on and people can die.

A wait of a day or two will cost around 30 Groschen, whereas waiting over 5 days will cost at least 100 Groschen. If players do choose to wait at the guild, they will be transported to the tournament after the time skip.

If not, players will have to keep track of the tournament in their journal and make sure they are in Kuttenberg on the day. In the morning, head over to the tournament ground, and a cutscene will trigger.

How Does The Kuttenberg Tournament Work In KCD2

The tournament in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 comprises three events, all of which are duels, but with different equipment.

  • Sword & Shield
  • Longsword
  • Free Combat

Each event is made up of two rounds each, so essentially a semi-final, and then a final. Each round is a best of three. Thus, to win an event, Henry will need to score two wins against one opponent, and then do the same against the finalist.

Henry will have to wait while the other duels take place, but it can be fun to watch, or he can use the downtime to recover and prepare.

The events always take place in the order above. If you only want to enter one, consider the first as then you won’t have to wait.

Equipment For The Tournament

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 - Kuttenberg Tournament Gear

For the Sword and Shield event, and the Longsword duels, Henry and other contestants will be provided with gear that they must wear. The armorer at the tent will give Henry everything he needs, just remember to return it later.

In the Free Combat event, however, combatants can use whatever they desire. It’s therefore advisable to turn up with plate armor or something similar. In terms of weapons, anything goes as long as it’s melee. Players can opt for a shield, but they don’t have to use one.

Tips For The Kuttenberg Tournament

  • The bathmaid can heal Henry at her tent in between rounds. This is free the first time.
  • There’s a sharpening wheel & free

  • You could poison the wine keg that Henry’s opponents drink from.
  • Remember to put your best armor on before the Free Combat event.
  • Henry can raise his sword or bow to the crowd before and after combat for extra immersion.
  • Don’t get complacent after previous tournament wins, as better opponents turn up.

What Are The Prizes?

The prizes for each event are awarded to the winner only and include Groschen, as well as one weapon, shield, piece of armor, or item of clothing. These are different each time.

Henry’s warfare skills and Strength will also improve naturally from tournament experience, which is great for future battles.

Furthermore, the prizes improve with each tournament, so players should not be dissuaded if they deem the rewards not good enough at first. Come back the following week for better gear and more Groschen.
