Mei Mei is the money-loving, Grade 1 Jujutsu Sorcerer of the Jujutsu Kaisen universe. A powerful and talented sorcerer, Mei Mei is an unstoppable force of nature, and is seen to be level-headed and tactical even during intense battles against cursed spirits or enemies.

Her obsession with money is questionable, but for the right price, she will take down whoever or whatever she needs to. Even though she may not be a fan favorite because of her selfish character, her grade 1 sorcerer skills make up for it. She also attended Jujutsu High at the same time as Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto attended.

Money Makes The World Go Round

The Price Of Power Is All She Cares About

Mei Mei stays away from things like politics or groups, unless there is money involved. She also believes that a person’s life is valued proportionately to how useful they are, she calls this “service potential” and associates this with the people she is with or meets. Mei Mei also has a younger brother, Ui Ui, who she cherishes and the duo are often seen together during battles executing dynamic attacks. Ui Ui also, in return, cares deeply about his older sister and sees her as a role model. Her reputation is so strong that even Gojo has stated that she is a powerful sorcerer and cannot be easily defeated.

One of Mei Mei’s disadvantages was that she was born with a weak innate technique, which are unique abilities that jujutsu sorcerers are able to manipulate at will and make up eighty percent of their skills. Innate techniques are also basically known as a jujutsu sorcerer’s personal cursed technique. Mei Mei’s cursed technique gives her the ability to control birds, which means she would excel as a close combat fighter. She eventually grew to harness this technique effectively and use it to its full potential. She was able to train hard enough to even defeat a semi-grade 1 cursed user – Niji Ebina, a serial killer and Psuedo-Geto follower.

A Weak Innate Technique With A Strong Heart

Apart from her innate technique, Mei Mei also trained with a battle axe, which she made as her primary weapon and cursed tool. She uses the battle axe for her close combat attacks, swinging the axe at insane speeds and precision. This is seen during her battle against the Smallpox Deity as she was able to break out of the coffin she was buried in with one swift attack. Mei Mei is also seen to be tactical when it comes to missions, she is able to use her birds to scout the area before going in, making sure she was well-prepared and had a plan ready. Her quick thinking has saved her many times, as she was able to figure out how she was able to escape an enemy’s domain expansion, and plan an effective counter-attack.

Jujutsu Kaisen has many underlying philosophies as a part of its story, but there is one main subject that shows a battle of ideologies!

Mei Mei’s innate technique is known as Black Bird Manipulation, which allows her to infuse cursed energy into crows and control them. She is able to control a swarm of birds at once, and is is also able to share vision with them, allowing her to see what they are able to see. One of her powerful moves is known as Bird Strike, where she infuses a bird with cursed energy and makes it throw itself at an opponent with powerful force, the force is so powerful it is able to take out a special-grade enemy with just one strike. The only people to have ever survived this attack was Sukuna, Kenjaku and Satoru Gojo. Mei Mei also uses her brother for tactical attacks, Ui Ui’s cursed technique allows him to teleport, and she uses this skill to her advantage during battles, making the brother-sister duo a powerful pair.
