Jujutsu Kaisen: Best Special Grade Curse

Curses come in all shapes and sizes. Some of them are small and weak, and they can be handled by novice sorcerers. However, there are certain curses in Jujutsu Kaisen that are a lot more powerful and fall into the special grade category. These curses are highly intelligent and capable of working together to achieve a common goal.

Special Grade curses possess an incredible amount of cursed energy, which they can manipulate with little to no difficulty. These curses can even regenerate their wounds, making it extremely difficult to fight them. Jujutsu Kaisen fans have witnessed the power of many Special Grade curses and will continue to do so as the anime releases new seasons.

Updated on January 10, 2025, Suzail Ahmad: Jujutsu Kaisen manga has come to an end, and with it did Itadori Yuji’s adventure. However, the manga’s conclusion has hardly affected its popularity. The announcement of two new projects by MAPPA has only made fans more eager to watch them.

With a new season of anime on its way, Jujutsu Kaisen fans can expect to see some of the strongest characters in action for the first time. It’s obvious that Special Grade Curses will feature heavily in the upcoming arc. They will use their Cursed Techniques to beat their enemies and send them to an early grave. Almost every Special Grade Curse in Jujutsu Kaisen has a unique Cursed Technique, and remembering all of them can be tricky. So, the list has been updated with Cursed Techniques of these fearsome characters.

Akuro-o Otake

Exorcised By: Takaba

Akuro-o Otake was another Special Grade curse utilized by Kenjaku in hopes of beating Takaba. Akuro-o Otake was a large humanoid curse that wielded an axe in battle. Given its grade, it is safe to assume that Akuro-o Otake was extremely powerful and could only be handled by the best sorcerers.

However, it didn’t get the opportunity to show off its power, as Takaba immediately exorcised it using his innate technique. So, it ranks low in comparison to the other Special Grade curses in Jujutsu Kaisen that have vanquished many sorcerers.

Best power: Due to the fact that it was quickly exorcised by Takaba, Akuro-o Otake’s powers remain unknown. But there is no doubt that it must have a devastating ability, as it was a Special Grade curse.

Cursed Technique: Akuro-o Otake was unfortunate to be exorcised almost immediately upon being summoned. Due to this reason, it is impossible to know what techniques he had.

Smallpox Deity

Exorcised By: Mei Mei

Smallpox Deity was a Special Grade curse that was summoned by Geto during the Shibuya Incident arc to stop Mei Mei from reaching the station. Smallpox Deity had the power to use Domain Expansion, which it used to trap Mei Mei and her brother.

Every Binding Vow In Jujutsu Kaisen

While inside the domain, the target would be captured inside a coffin, and subsequently, a large boulder fell on it to bury it inside the ground. Smallpox Deity would count to three, and if the target did not break out, they would die. Mei Mei needed the help of Ui Ui to counter Smallpox Deity and defeat it.

Best power: Smallpox Deity’s Grave Stone technique is a dangerous ability that can kill a person by inflicting them with smallpox. The target only gets a small window to escape and avoid death. Ultimately, this proved to be the reason for its defeat.

Cursed Technique: The Smallpox Deity’s Cursed Technique allows it to trap the victim inside a coffin. This is followed by the dropping of a gravestone, which causes the coffin to be buried.

Kurourushi

Exorcised By: Yuta Okkotsu

Kurourushi was a Special Grade curse used by Kinjaku to participate in the Culling Game. It was a cockroach curse that only cared about killing humans and eating them. It was a voracious water and anyone who tried to come between its meals would automatically become its next target.

Kurourishi mainly utilized its sword in battles to slice open his opponents. The six barrels on the sword would shoot cursed insect eggs in the wound, which would lead to cockroaches emerging from it, causing serious damage. Kurourishi was strong enough to trouble Yuta Okkutsu, a powerful sorcerer in his own right, but it was eventually exorcised in the Culling Game.

Best power: Kurourishi had the power to summon cursed cockroaches. These insects are capable of devouring human flesh within seconds. Only a talented sorcerer was able to handle the swarm of cockroaches created by this Special Grade curse spirit.

Cursed Technique: Kurourishi’s cursed technique allowed him to create a swarm of flesh-eating cockroaches that were powered by cursed energy. These insects could devour the flesh of a human being in seconds. Upon consuming the flesh of an individual, Kurourishi could create even more cockroaches.

Kuchisake Onna

Exorcised By: Toji Fushiguro

Kuchisake-Onna is based on the character of the same name prevalent in Japanese mythology. She made her first appearance in the series when Geto summoned her to fight Toji Fushiguro. While her grade has not been confirmed, there are many things that allude to her being a special grade cursed spirit.

She is able to use Domain Expansion, which creates a vow between her and the target. Until her question is answered, neither party can attack. Once she receives a response, she is free to strike the opponent with scissors and other sharp objects. Even with her power, she was no match for Toji Fushiguro.

Best power: Kuchisake-Onna had the power to create a simple domain, which forcibly created a binding vow. Due to this, neither the curse spirit nor the victim can use violence. In order to bypass its effects, the target had to answer Kuchisake-Onna’s question.

Cursed Technique: While Kuchisake-Onna was a powerful entity, she did not get the chance to show her cursed technique.

Dagon

Dagon belongs to Mahito’s group and is its most timid member. He was born from the fear that people have for disasters related to water. As he had not managed to unlock his true form, Dagon appeared harmless to most individuals. However, that was far from the truth, as he could still kill weak sorcerers.

In his released form, Dagon became much more menacing and powerful. His cursed energy reserves enabled him to fight for extended periods of time. Dagon’s Domain Expansion allows his shikigami to bite the target without failure.

Best power: Dagon’s transformation made him a big threat to humans in Shibuya. His strongest power was being able to summon multiple deadly shikigami that could tear a person to shreds.

Cursed Technique: Dagon’s cursed techniques enabled him to create massive waves of water that can engulf everything in seconds. He could also create dangerous shikigami that could annihilate his opponents in seconds.

Jogo

Jogo was another member of Mahito’s group, and he had a strong desire to get rid of all humans in the world. Jogo displayed his power while talking to Geto in a shop, where he set everyone on fire. He was very arrogant and believed that he was superior to all people, including sorcerers. His arrogance blinded him to objectivity, which is why he decided to ambush Gojo Satoru by himself.

Unsurprisingly, the sorcerer put him in his place and would have killed him if not for Hanami’s intervention. Despite his poor showing against Gojo, Jogo is not to be underestimated. He can easily fight the sorcerers belonging to other grades and come out on top.

Best power: Jogo was a villain who had absolutely no problem killing people. As a Special Grade curse, Jogo had access to powerful abilities that enabled him to accomplish his tasks. One of his more dangerous techniques was Maximum: Meteor, which was potent enough to destroy a large portion of Shibuya. The strength behind the attack even mesmerized Sukuna, who considered himself lucky to avoid the attack.

Cursed Technique: Jogo was a well-rounded fighter, and one of the few cursed spirits who survived an encounter with Gojo Satoru. Jogo has numerous techniques that could incinerate an individual in seconds. These abilities combined with his experience made him a noteworthy opponent.

Hanami

Hanami was born from humans’ fear of natural disasters linked to land. He wanted to erase all of humankind because of how they disrespected nature. Hanami was physically strong and resilient, as evidenced by his ability to fight multiple talented sorcerers without taking a break.

He was more sensible than Jogo, and he would often retreat if the situation got out of hand. Hanami’s innate technique allowed him to create cursed plants that could be used in a variety of ways. One of his strongest techniques is Flower Field, which takes away a person’s desire to fight.

Choso, Eso, and Kechizu are Cursed Womb: Death Paintings. They were born in the Meiji era because of Noritoshi Kamo’s sordid experiments with a woman. So far, three Cursed Womb: Death Paintings have been revealed in Jujutsu Kaisen. They are all special grade curses that can cause problems for the best of sorcerers.

However, there is a discrepancy in their powers. While Eso and Kechizu were undoubtedly strong, they couldn’t hold a candle to their elder brother, Choso. Eso and Kechizu were the main antagonists of the Death Painting arc, and they were defeated by Yuji and Nobara. Choso is yet to be involved in the anime, but fans can expect him to be an extremely strong character.

Best power: Out of three brothers, Choso was the strongest. He had better control over his abilities, making him a threat to the best sorcerers. Choso had the power to manipulate blood in various ways. His best technique is called Piercing Blood. In this move, Choso fires a stream of blood at his opponent. It moves at ridiculously high speeds, which makes it almost impossible for a regular human to dodge them. When it finally makes contact with the target’s body, the attack can wound them fatally.

Cursed Technique: Choso used blood manipulation in a plethora of ways. He could use it to attack enemies from afar or use it to reinforce his defense. Eso’s cursed technique enabled him to poison and corrode a person’s body. Kechizu’s technique was linked to his blood as well. It allowed him to poison an individual and decompose their body.

Mahito is the leader of a group of cursed spirits that want the demolition of the entire world. He appears to be a harmless young man, but in reality, he is one of the most deadly special grade cursed spirits in Jujutsu Kaisen. Mahito is an extremely cruel character who kills people for fun.

He uses his innate technique to transfigure people and turn them into abominations. Mahito can touch the soul of an individual, which makes it almost impossible to defend against his ability. Mahito is also able to use Domain Expansion, which allows him to connect to the souls of anyone trapped inside.

Best power: Mahito had a lot of potential, which is why Jogo and others trusted him so much. Throughout the first two anime seasons, Mahito showed how lethal he was. He was a quick learner, so it didn’t take long for him to master powerful techniques. Mahito’s best attack was the Self-Embodiment of Perfection. It was a domain expansion that connected him to the souls of other people. With this ability, Mahito could easily transfigure their souls.

Rika is arguably the most dangerous special grade cursed spirit in Jujutsu Kaisen. She was dubbed the Queen of Curses because of her immensely powerful cursed energy. Despite this, Yuta was able to control Rika’s power to a certain extent.

When he freed Rika from the curse, she still remained with him. Yuta used Rika’s power to fight and defeat Suguru Geto, one of the strongest sorcerers in the world. It is believed that Rika grants Yuta the ability to copy the abilities of other people and use them without any restrictions. While there is no concrete evidence to back up the claim, there is a strong chance that Rika’s existence is one of the two things required to copy techniques. She can also store cursed tools inside her chest, which Yuta can access at any time.

Best power: Yuta and Rika are an immensely powerful team. Rika’s status as a Special Grade makes it extremely difficult to beat her. One of her abilities is called Copy, and it allows her to use a technique that she copied from an opponent.

Cursed Technique: Rika is able to store cursed techniques copied from other individuals and she can also store cursed tools inside her body. Both of these can come in handy against foes.
