How Gege Uses 3D Models To Draw
Gege Achieves Better Drawings By Using 3D Models
It was recently revealed that Gege Akutami, the mangaka of Jujutsu Kaisen, uses 3D models to assist him in his drawings. He goes through multiple steps, which helps ensure his art looks good.
Firstly, he sketches the characters and backgrounds of the page. This allows him to better conceptualize how the characters will look, and help pick models that would fit.
Even I’m surprised at how furious I get when someone looks down on me!! Like you with your pity!! I can’t wait to get payback on your beloved humans! — Sukuna
After his sketch is done, and he is better able to visualize the details of his page, then he moves on to actually adding the 3D models. On top of his sketches, he adds 3D models that help him nail the movement of characters better. With 3D models, he can even move the camera angles to make the ideal poses.
After he adjusts his 3D models the way he wants, he then starts drawing on top of them. Once his drawing is as he likes, then he can ink on top of that. At this point, the 3D models are no longer needed.
In all the heavens and the earth, I alone am the Honored One. — Gojo Satoru
Gege does not only use this for characters, but also for objects, such as weapons used by the characters.
