How to Use the Summoning Altar in Palworld (& How to Get It)
Palworld offers an exciting blend of popular games, from the building mechanics of Fortnite and Minecraft to the adorable Pokemon-like creatures known as pals. While some features draw inspiration from other titles, Palworld’s true focus lies in its pals and the unique ways you can interact with them.
Your pals can do everything from cooking and mining to constructing buildings in your base. While they’re adept at most tasks, there are some structures they can’t quite grasp or work at, like the enigmatic Summoning Altar. In Palworld, the Summoning Altar is a big, odd-looking structure resembling the mysterious building blocks found in wildlife sanctuaries, Mount Obsidian, and near No Man’s Trail in Astral Mountains.
As its name suggests, the Summoning Altar is used to summon extremely powerful Pals called raid bosses, who drop powerful rewards, ranging from rare items to a huge dark egg featuring the raid boss itself. Follow this guide to find out how to unlock the Summoning Altar, the materials required to build it, and use the building to summon a raid boss.
Updated October 3, 2024 by Manish Kumar Choudhary:PocketPair continues to expand Palworld’s raid boss feature by introducing new bosses. This Summoning Altar guide has been updated with additional information on Pal slabs and slab fragments. You will also find easily accessible spots for fighting raid bosses in Palworld.
How to Unlock the Summoning Altar and Build It
Table of Contents
The Summoning Altar is an ancient technology unlockable at level 33 in Palworld. After reaching level 33, you can spend three Ancient Technology points to unlock the building recipe. The easiest way to get Ancient Technology points is by defeating alpha pals found throughout the Palpagos Islands. If you are up for a challenge, feel free to fight the strong tower bosses to get five Ancient Technology points when defeating them for the first time.
Once you have unlocked the Summoning Altar, you will need the following items to build it:
- 100 stones
- 20 paldium fragments
The Summoning Altar is located in the Other tab of the Build menu. It’s important to consider where you build the altar. While it might be tempting to place it in your main base for convenience, it’s not recommended. Instead, it’s advisable to dedicate a separate base specifically for summoning and battling raid bosses. Palworld lets you create up to three bases by creating a Palbox.
This strategic decision is essential because raid bosses can wreak havoc on your base. By keeping your main base separate, you can protect it from potential destruction guaranteed during a boss fight. An open area is perfect for building the Summoning Altar, as you will have enough space to move freely and let your powerful Pals fight the boss without getting stuck in odd places.
How to Get Slabs for Summoning Altar
Should you find yourself lacking the necessary slabs for summoning a raid boss, you will need to scavenge for slab fragments. These rare items are often found as rewards in chests scattered throughout dungeons and open-world areas, such as wildlife sanctuaries.
For lower-level raid bosses like the Eclipsed Siren Bellanoir, seek out dungeons in early-game regions like Windswept Hills and Sea Breeze Archipelago for slab fragments. As for high-level bosses like the Twilight Siren Bellanoir Libero, explore dungeons and regions such as Mount Obsidian, Desiccated Desert, and Astral Mountains. Defeating the Twilight Siren Bellanoir Libero will drop the slab for summoning an even more formidable variant of the same raid boss.
Other than Bellanoir, you can also find slab fragments for summoning Blazamut Ryu, a raid boss variant of the fiery Blazamut. Blazamut Ryu is a Dragon/Fire pal with access to powerful attacks like Magna Crush and Brawn Impact while also featuring the exclusive Eternal Flame skill, which boosts Fire and Lightning attacks by 30%. You can pass this passive skill to other pals through breeding and improve their offense. Blazamut Ryu slab fragments can be found inside chests found in dungeons of Mount Obsidian, Desiccated Desert, Astral Mountains, and Sakurajima Island.
Once you have collected four slab fragments, head to a crafting workbench or production assembly line to assemble the slab. Fortunately, unlocking the recipe for summoning a slab in Palworld doesn’t require any points, but remember, the recipe only becomes visible when you possess at least one slab fragment in your inventory. As for the Ultra slab fragments, they can only be obtained by defeating the regular raid boss.
How to Use Summoning Altar and Start a Raid
Once you have constructed the Summoning Altar, the next step is to craft a Pal slab to initiate the summoning ritual for a raid boss. Simply place the slab into the Summoning Altar and select the ‘Summon Powerful Pal’ option. Palworld will prompt you for confirmation before summoning the boss and starting the raid, ensuring you’re prepared for the encounter.
During a raid, you will have 10 minutes to defeat the boss, or you will lose both the challenge and the Pal slab used to start the raid. You will also lose the raid if the Palbox gets destroyed, so try to lure the raid boss away from it.
There is no turning back once you start a raid boss battle in Palworld. It is recommended to prepare an army of 25 strong, high-level pals. Five of them will be part of your team, and the rest can be summoned to your pal base. You can prepare additional pals since many of them will likely die during the fight, and you may need to replace them using the Palbox.
Best Spots for Building a Summoning Altar and Fighting Raid Bosses
Fighting a raid boss is no easy task. In most cases, a raid boss will obliterate every pal and building near the Palbox. For this reason, it’s important to carefully choose the location for building your Summoning Altar and starting a raid. Due to the awkward movement of pals in Palworld, it is advisable to look for flat areas for raid boss battles. Fortunately, Palworld offers several such spots. Here are some great locations for fighting a raid boss:
West Coast of Forgotten Island
Forgotten Island is one of the beginner-friendly regions in Palworld. Its west coast features a long, flat beach that is perfect for raid boss battles. You can also use the small island with the Forgotten Island fast travel point as your raiding base, though the limited space may restrict your pals’ movement.
Open Area North of the Lv. 15 Penking Alpha Boss
The Lv. 15 Penking is one of the first few alpha bosses you will encounter in Palworld due to its low level and early accessibility. North of the boss room, you’ll find a vast open area. While there are many chunks of stone scattered around, your pals should be able to maneuver around them and fight the raid boss without much trouble.
East of the Black Marketeer on Eastern Wild Island
On the far east of the Palpagos Islands, you’ll come across Eastern Wild Island. This island is home to two powerful Alpha bosses, Mossanda Lux and Wumpo Botan, as well as a Black Marketeer. Just east of the Black Marketeer is a large open area atop the hills, ideal for fighting a raid boss. However, be cautious, as the boss could fall off the hill.
