How To Farm Plastic in Fallout 76
Plastic is an incredibly useful material in Fallout 76. It is used to craft CAMP items, armor and weapon mods, ammo, and more. It is one of those resources that can be found pretty much everywhere. However, despite being pretty easy to obtain, players don’t seem to be able to gather enough plastic to build everything they need to build.

Items That Contain Plastic
There are lots of items that contain plastic. In fact, it is one of the most commonly found resources in the game. While listing every item that contains plastic would be a bit too long, below you can see some of the most commonly found/ the best items to grab that contain plastic:

There are over 60 different items in the game that can be broken down into plastic. Many armor pieces and weapons can also be scrapped for a handful of basic materials, including plastic. To get plenty of armor pieces and weapons to scrap, simply head to any location with lots of human enemies. Most human enemies will drop armor pieces or weapons when killed. This is not only a good way of getting plastic, but it’s pretty good for gaining XP too.
Best Locations To Farm Plastic
There are plenty of great places to farm plastic. However, there are three places that tend to be more lucrative for farming large quantities of plastic. The first one is Watoga High School. This place is filled with all sorts of items that contain plastic. Head to the cafeteria and pick up all of the plastic cutlery that can be found on the tables. You can also find things such as plastic pumpkins, salt shakers, and more. It’s not uncommon for players to walk out of there with a couple of hundred pieces of plastic. This location is also perfect for those who want to reset the server. Resetting the server respawns a lot of the items that can be found dotted around the wasteland. To do this, you need to pick up a lot of items, then scrap everything, and hop to a new server.
The second place to visit is Whitespring. This location spans across a very large area and has plastic all over the place. The buildings alongside the resort have lots of great junk inside. This includes plenty of items that contain plastic. The Whitespring Golf Club has a couple of pool tables on the top floor which have lots of pool balls, each one containing plastic. You can also head inside the Whitespring Mall and loot everything you see for some additional plastic.
The final place that’s worth visiting when it comes to farming plastic is Morgantown High School. Similar to Watoga High School, this location has lots of plastic cutlery. It also has quite a lot of other junk items, making it a great all-round place to farm junk.
Passively Generate Plastic
There are plenty of CAMP resource items that produce plastic over time. Not only that, but if you place your CAMP over a junk pile, you can place a junk extractor on top of it. This will generate all sorts of junk items, many of which contain plastic. Some of the best locations that have a junk pile can be seen below:
- Northwest Of Sunshine Meadows Industrial Farm
- North Of Aaronholt Homestead
- North Of Berkley Springs
- North Of Harper’s Ferry
As for CAMP items that generate plastic, there are quite a few resource generators that are worth investing in. First is the Games Cupboard. This item typically costs 700 Atoms to buy. While it is a pretty pricey item, it generates pre-war board games. Some of the board games contain plastic. They also contain a variety of other junk items such as antiseptic, bone, and even nuclear material.
The Motorized Butter Churn is a great CAMP resource item to have. Unlike the Games Cupboard, the Motorized Butter Churn can be purchased or traded among players, meaning that you won’t need to hand over any items to unlock the ability to craft this item. It produces cooking oil over time. Cooking oil can be broken down to produce both oil and plastic.
There are also plenty of Collectron Stations that players can build at their CAMPs. While some of them do cost Atoms, others can be obtained for free during limited-timed events. You can also purchase some using Gold Bullion. For the most part, Samuel, Foundation’s Gold Bullion trader, will have most of the CAMP Collectors in his inventory. However, Minerva may also have some for sale at a discount from time to time.
The items you get from a CAMP Collector will depend on which type of Collector you have built. The ones that produce items that contain plastic can be seen below:
- Silver Collectron Station
- Scavenger Collectron Station
- Santatron Collectron Station
- Red Rocket Collectron Station
- Lumberjack Collectron Station
- Junkyard Dog Collectron Station
- F.E.T.C.H. Collectron Station
- Communist Collectron Station
- BOS Collectron Station
- Red Rocket Dumpster Collector
Purchase Plastic From NPC Vendors And Players
One quick way of getting plastic is by paying NPC Vendors a visit. While you will need to have plenty of Caps, it does save you plenty of time when compared to visiting and looting various locations across the map. The best place to visit is Whitespring Mall. This location has traders all over the place, many of whom will sell items that contain plastic. Some of the traders will also sell Bulk Plastic.

Fallout 76: Most Important Junk Components
Components that players acquire by breaking down junk in Fallout 76 are crucial for everything from base building to repairing weapons and armor.
If you still have some extra Caps to spend after clearing out NPC Vendors, you can hop to a new server as this will refresh the items they have in their inventory. Some players may also sell plastic from time to time. It’s worth taking a look at players’ CAMPs in the world activity menu to see if anyone is selling junk. If a player is selling lots of junk, then there’s a chance that they might be selling some plastic at a reasonable price.
The Core Uses Of Plastic
Plastic has many uses. It is a core component of many weapons, both melee and ranged. It’s required to make many of the armor sets in the game and Power Armor pieces. Plastic is needed to make bulk junk items. Junk items are usually turned into bulk so they can either be sold to NPC Vendors, sold to other players, or stored in a player’s Stash.
But for the most part, players need plastic for crafting certain types. Plastic is needed to make Fusion Cells. Fusion Cells are among the most commonly used ammo types in the game. It’s not uncommon for players to go through thousands of Fusion Cells during a play session. While the cost can be reduced by using various magazines and perks, if you burn through Fusion Cells quickly, you’ll find that you are constantly in need of plastic.
The other main use of plastic is crafting CAMP items. Players love coming up with creative CAMP builds, especially since the Best Builds feature was released. Building a CAMP costs lots of resources, plastic being one of the big ones. Plastic is needed to craft quite a lot of the floor and wall decor CAMP items. From the Jack O’Lantern to some of the wall lettering. Since a CAMP would look pretty bare without any decorations, players will use lots of plastic to make their CAMPs feel more ‘lived in’ and full. Decorating your CAMP with as many display items as possible is also a great way to show off some of your more unique plans to other players.
