Locate the Hunting Rifle Locker In Toluca Prison

To locate the Hunting Rifle in Silent Hill 2, players must reach the Toluca Prison armory, a late-game area. To access the Toluca prison, players will have to reach the point of the story where James visits the Silent Hill Historical Society building. From there, descend into the depths by a very long staircase leading into a prison-like area.

After reaching the underground area, progress until James stumbles upon a square-shaped hole. Jumping through the hole will lead him to a lower level of the underground prison area. After progressing further, players will see another hole through a door that is locked by a gate positioned horizontally. In the adjacent room, players will find the Spiral-Writing key to open the locked gate. After unlocking the gate, James will jump down and reach the Toluca Prison.

After that, head further into the prison until James reaches the Toluca Prison Armory, which holds the map of the area. This is the room where players will spot the Hunting Rifle caged behind a weapon locker. The main goal is to unlock the weapon locker and acquire the rifle.

How to Unlock the Weapon Locker in Toluca Prison Armory

To unlock the weapon locker and get the Hunting Rifle, you’ll need the Armory Key. However, you’ll need to solve a few puzzles and make your way through the prison in order to obtain said key. Here are the steps you need to follow to unlock the weapon locker and get the Hunting Rifle in Silent Hill 2:

1. Exit the Toluca Prison Armory and head into the Chapel, where players find “The Heaviest Weight” atop the Altar.
2. Now go through Block B and into the yard. Keep moving forward until James spots a statue in the middle of the yard.
3. Placing the weights on the statue will unlock different sections of the prison. For now, place the smallest weight on the left scale and the heaviest weight on the right scale. This will open the Serpent door that unlocks the next section of the prison.
4. Head back to Cell Block B, take the first left, and head right through the open doorway. Players will spot the Serpent Door towards the immediate left.
5. Now, players will need to head straight for the Guard Room. After exiting the Guardroom, cut through the locked prison cells and enter the Witness Room.
6. Here, players will need to overload the power panel on the wall by figuring out a sequence to turn all the switches up. Once the panel is overloaded, flip the lever on the right to unlock all the prison cells.
7. Head into the Death Chamber and exit the other side, making your way to Cell E1. There’s a crack in the wall that can be opened up to access the cells on the other side.
8. Once on the other side, go towards Cell E10 and enter through the crack in the wall into a room with the Armory Key located inside a key case on the wall. Now, all players need to do from here is enter the door towards the right of the key case and unlock the door at the end of the room. This is actually a shortcut to quickly reach back to the Armory.

Now simply open the weapon locker inside the Armory and players will get their hands on the Hunting Rifle weapon . Do note that although the Rifle is quite powerful against Silent Hill 2‘s enemies, its ammo is very scarce. So, it’s best to line up your shots well before pulling the trigger to avoid wasting precious ammo.
