honkai star rail faces a fork in the road with sunday s team synergy

While Honkai: Star Rail’s Version 2.6 is quite a big update, people are already pining for 2.7’s release in early December. That patch will finally release the banner for the much-awaited Imaginary-Harmony unit: Sunday. Playable unit releases and updates for established characters like Sunday are often hyped up because their kit and design often coincide with their progression in Honkai: Star Rail’s story. For example, fellow 2.7 unit Fugue is all but confirmed to be a reincarnated or transcended version of Tingyun, a character who seemingly died during the events of the Xianzhou arc. The developers can reinforce Sunday’s lore by playing around with his synergy with an existing support character who plays a big role in his overall story.

Players don’t know for sure what Sunday’s plot and kit in 2.7 will be just yet. However, it’s hinted during the aftermath of Honkai: Star Rail‘s Penacony storyline that he could have been freed from The Family’s prison by Jade. Some fans think that he’ll join the Stellaron Hunters, while others think that he might bunk with Team Akvili on the Astral Express. There have also been rumors around his kit from reputable leakers like HomDGCat and Seele Leaks, which suggest that the unit could have an Energy-generating ultimate and action advances that affect summons.

Honkai: Star Rail Could Hint at Sunday’s Lore Through His Kit

After the events of the boss battle with Sunday, a title card hinted that a brother and sister were “doomed for eternal separation.” This likely refers to Sunday and Robin, as the former was arrested, tried, and imprisoned by The Family after his crimes came to light. The developers could explore this story further by making his kit complementary or competitive with his sibling’s.

The Developers Could Hint at a Sunday and Robin Reunion by Making Them Synergistic

Some fans want to get Sunday just so they can use him in a team with his sister. The devs could give them what they want and make the two work well together. After all, Sunday’s possible Energy-generating ultimate could help out with fulfilling Robin’s 160-Energy ult requirement as fast as possible. Sunday’s possible action-advancing skill could also work well with Robin’s ult, as both abilities give big buffs and crucial extra turns for their teammates. This synergy could be used to reinforce a more hopeful storyline wherein Robin reunites with Sunday and helps with his redemption.

Alternatively, the devs could play into the “eternal separation” narrative and make Sunday compete with his sister for the Harmony support role. This seems more realistic, as Robin’s team-wide buffs are currently geared more towards dual-DPS compositions like Feixiao-Topaz/March/Moze and Kafka-Black Swan teams. Sunday, from what could be gleaned from his leaked kit, offers single-target buffs which make him geared more toward single-DPS hypercarry comps. Plus, according to HomDGCat’s recent leaks, Sunday’s skill-based action advance won’t work on other Harmony units. His ult could also provide big CRIT DMG buffs, so it’s best used for a damage unit that can utilize it instead of Robin.

The information about Sunday’s abilities is based on leaks from reliable sources, but they should still be taken with a grain of salt. All pre-release information is subject to change until the character’s official launch.

From the looks of Sunday’s leaked abilities, the siblings could be destined to be separated when it comes to the game’s combat. The devs and writing team could use this to lean into the siblings’ tragic story. Perhaps they could write in a reunion with the two realizing that they are just meant to walk different paths. Either way, that won’t stop dedicated fans from slotting the Oak siblings in a team and somehow making it work.
